.net.au and .net worthwhile

.net.au domains and their value have been discussed many times before on this forum - a quick search will show lots of prior threads.
In short it really depends on what you want to do with the domain. If you are buying with a view to resell net.au might not be that great of an investment although there have been some good .net.au sales of late. If you are looking to develop and depend solely on search traffic, in my opinion, they can be ok.

What do you mean by a good amount of monthly searches? If you are finding a lot then that is probably a warning sign.

Imho, I think there are all sorts of ways to value them. Depends what niche they are in; and if it is unlikely the .com.au will ever become available at anywhere near a reasonable price.
- A prime generic name in finance / insurance / credit cards is going to be worth much more than other genres.
- Another reason people sometimes pay more than normal for a net.au is to protect their brand.
But having owned lots of net.au's, I'm now selling them off (with a few exceptions). Personally I am concentrating on com.au only these days.

I know for a long time people have said a .net is worth about 10% of a .com but rarely is that actually the case (It is just an arbitrary statement that .net owners like the make). Most of the time a buyer would not even consider a .net.au so the probability of a sale is far lower in my view despite much lower prices. There is some examples of sales where the ratio between the two is fairly good but it is uncommon in my view.

Yes I did and I still do.... ish. I only said 1/20th to be certain. After all as an investor you want to buy below your perceived value not at.

According to todays netfleet bids .net.au is worth about 100th of the .com.au
example being Botox.

Although.... having the two domains for sale at the exact same time maybe skews it a bit. People may, in general, be prepared to pay 1/10th or 1/20th for the net.au or whatever when the com.au is already gone but in this instance, when both were available, maybe prospective buyers put all their energies into getting the com.au? Just thinking out loud, could be BS...

But that is not a very good examples in true sale imo, as it is deemed to be a trademark based sale (potentially)
as Ned said if you compare domains in finance/ Insurance/ Banking it will differ from other niches.

David, If two domains are sold at the same time via auction at the same venue that is the best comparison there ever will be. All the stuff about putting energies into .com.au is obviously true, but that is because .net.au is seen as rubbish. There wouldn't be more interest if the .com.au was not dropping at the same time, that is the "BS" part.
You're probably right but I'm not altogether convinced. I do have a sneaky feeling that is the net.au dropped on it's own it could have gotten more than $30. We'll never know I guess

You can see the desperation in the video in terms of needing the .com. It is a funny thing though, obviously this guy has made a domain blunder with the .net and I think he now knows it, calling it a grandma's extension etc, but then to make an even bigger domain mistake to trying to solve the initial mistake?

Bidding anomaly... I think HospitalityJobs.com.au is worth at least $4,510 hence the 10% rule is about right
