buyer is a mate of mine, all round good guy.

I know he owns a fair few .net.au domains and he can 100% see the value, I wish him all the best.

Congrats to all involved with the domains today. Some great buys, went for a few but didn't get them.

Great to see the value in the .net.au increasing, great signs for the future of the Australian domain name market!

net.au's getting prices like these wow.... imagine what the .com.au's will be worth if this keeps going

I think the .net.au's that sold would be the exception to the rule given that that are in financial services sector. I doubt if there are more than 20 .net.au's that would fetch over $10,000.

i don't think this result means we should all race out and grab .net.au's , i think the 2 top were valid grabs and it shows in the others that didn't perform.

i just can't wait for a .net.au to outrank the .comau's of budgetdirect/bingle/youi etcccc as i KNOW david is the guy that can do that.

Personally I dont know if most general public Aussies really care if it is a .net.au . There are a few business using it now though I'm sure that they would prefer the .com.au if they could, but the point is I think the general population dont care if its one or the other as they have been exposed to both variants, as time goes on I can see the values between them getting closer.

This could be a driving factor in the .net pricing (or what people are will to pay) to either get the matching pair or pick it up for the keyword element where they missed out on the .com, .com.au versions in the past....they can still milk traffic from the generics.

I think they thing is they do rank and can generate revenue, Car Insurance is probably one of the biggest industries, I mean look at lifeinsurance.net.au that was ranking for a good year on page one, It is just a matter of how the industry will perceive the domain, I think it should be quite good.

Exactly it is all about ranking well and EMD do receive a boost even though google has said they have reduced the benefit lately.

What's the plan with the domain? Surely has to be more than just an information site?

.com amd .com.au names have and always will be valued and better respected than a .net or .net.au etc

For example the samsung phones now come with a ".com" button , not a .net , .org. , .whatever hot button

The safest place to invest money and build a brand is to pay more and get the .com.au or .com This is domain names 101.

many companies that own the .com.au or .com don't even waste the money getting the .net version... maybe they should but in reality the .com.au and .com name commands far greater market and customer respect

Rankings on a seach engine also does not gaurantee more people click through to that site. Personally I would click carinsurance.com.au homeinsurance.com.au houseinsurance.com.au boatinsuarance.com.au petinsurance.com.au and probably not even click .net.au if they outrated the .com.au ( which normally is paid for or just good seo ) . chances are people also still do type in the generic word and .com or .com.au on it also. I dont know anyone who would "type in" .net .net.au etc to the address bar

The efforts to make the .net prefix compete against the .com version will always be far greater money and time wise, also its near impossible to change public world perception. The world talks .com and .com.au or .co.uk or .co.nz etc etc

Would you visit these or the .com & .com.au versions first ? Godaddy.net anz.net seek.net.au carsales.net.au realestate.net.au domain.net.au facebook.net ebay.net yahoo.net amazon.net news.net.au paypal.net smh.net.au westpac.net.au etc apple.net

Slightly off tangent DomainNames; but if .au comes into existence one day, would you click on that if it outranked the .com.au? ;)

The problem is confusion, .net.au isn't the standard. It is a 4 pin power plug in a 3 pin world. SEO and sending the traffic off to some other business/site is really the only worthwhile game for these types of names, they won't work well as a business in my view.

Hi Neddy as Auda confirmed at the Annual General Meeting .au will not be coming in and no I would still click .com.au or .com having lots of names globally to renew each year the only ones which have shown true value are the original extensions.. The only reasons new ones come up is when greedy registrars etc push for new extensions to sell and make more money from. Where they have done it it often stuffs up the whole countries platforms and does nothing but confuse consumers.

Companies are smart enough now not to be blackmailed also into buying every extension the registrars are flogging.. all ther trademark, ip protection BS.

Just go to onlydomains.com click in many well known brands and see how many countries they dont even bother registering in. They just get the best names they can such as a .com , .co.uk, .com.au, .co.nz etc and put there money into that.

Everyone should say NO to any move by registrars or auda piolicy makers even thinking of blackmaling current registrants users by releasing .au. theonly thing that might be acceptable was if they gave the .au extension FREE to all existing .com.au registants... That may support the idea they are not doing it just for money..... but in the end it would only stuff up the value companies and even auda themselves have put into .com.au.

No new extensions are needed for Australia. Question anyone who says Australia needs more and ask why they would push for it!
Are they a Registrar who would make a lot more as everyone had to go and protect their brand buy getting the .au. Could auda auction .au and force the .com.au owners to buy it to protect what they have? Would these companies like to see the .au equivalent available? carsales.au realestate.au seek.au news.au domain.au google.au hotels.au creditcards.au etc etc...

Hopefully auda does not just want the extra money a new extension would bring them and can stand strong.
