Rules? Meh who cares right?

Interesting to see some domains that were snapped up on the drops today with big shiny "For Sale" signs on them only a couple of hours after the drops.

No obvious price. That's likely a day away I'd say.

Will keep you posted.

Obviously now with this post I'm sure a price won't be forthcoming though ;-)

All the more reason for the removal of the rules. Why should anyone need to grandstand with a placeholder until enough time has passed so that they can then sell their site? Personally I think you should be able to display whatever content you wish without interference from auDA.

I'm with johnathan on this, I have only been in this game a short while but have learnt a lot, I think that I registered my first domain in 2000 and that is LATE for some people.

IF seriously by now you haven,t registered your domain or you have let it drop then tuff shit!

We have given you 12 years of tv reports, boom bust YouTube and almost everyone on the planet knows about Facebook so in my opinion GAME over.

In this specific respect who is the auda protecting? I think people that have come to the party wayyyyyyyy to late.

I,m all for protection of businesses BUT even then they should have done it by now.

Australia has been great in its protection of businesses , but it's time to move
forward

My issue is not about the policy being wrong or right.

But while it is there, we need to comply.

True, but aren't we the ones that can make change?

I want to change the speed limit too, so tomorrow i'm driving 200 km/h all day.

That should help :D

If we want to change the rules then ok, let me know where the petition is to sign..

But until then, blatantly breaking the rules is only making us all look bad IMO.

Paul, you are right. In fact, everyone's pov is right.

In general, I agree with Jonathan's sentiments. Whilst there will always be a need for some regulation, this policy is one of the most poorly drafted ones imho. I've posted about this before.

With the way this is worded, if you buy domain/s today - and then be seen to try and sell it / them the same day or shortly thereafter; you are technically contravening current policy.
You could be accused of buying for the "SOLE purpose" of buying for resale.

This isn't fair imho because this affects the business model of domainers. auDA knows we buy domains; and they know that invariably we are going to sell them. They accept that -
but yet this rule doesn't properly allow for that.

  • auDA has this policy in place mainly to stop someone registering / purchasing a domain name that has relation or connection to another person / company / organisation (with a similar
company name or TM) - and then immediately offering this domain for sale to them. And that's fair enough imho.

So provided we don't do this, we should be able to sell whenever we want - no waiting for a period of time to ensure we are "decent".

But the fact of the matter is (as johno69 says), while the rule is there, we should be seen to be complying. If you know the location of a fixed speed camera, you'd be a bit silly going
past it at 200km/hour!

Anybody who goes out and immediately offers domains for sale publicly (as in the same day or next day) is potentially asking for trouble from auDA. Why put yourself on their radar?

True, but aren't we the ones that can make change?

YES! But nothing changes quickly. It's like trying to stop and turn around a giant container ship.

You got to remember that it was worse previously. Until October last year, we had that dreaded "6 month rule" in place. I was part of the Secondary Market Working Group that helped get rid of it.

http://www.dntrade.com.au/secondary-market-working-group-t3698.html

Change will only happen if you / we make it happen. If you're not already a member of auDA; join. Put your hand up to take part in working groups and panels. Send letters to the Board.
Contact your "demand class" directors (via auDA office). A "squeaky door gets the oil"!

IMHO.

Do we? Do you comply with all rules that you think are unfair, don't make sense, directly hurt you/your business and you can get away with breaking?

I certainly do. Begrudgingly of course, but I prefer to keep my nose clean when it comes to business.
