Personally I think he is better to pay more and buy Removalists.com.au . It has much greater investment and development potential. ( No I dont own it and no I dont work for netfleet) but Removalists.com.au in my opinion is easily a $10,000+ domain

develop it into a directory and charge $10 a year for a listing = $57,430 income... throw in some banner ads...and you have an online business thats worth a lot of money to keep for the income or sell. You need $600,000 invested to make that money per year.

Would probably suggest trying for removalists.com.au as well particularly if you have Australia wide coverage and can really get the most out of it, if not then I guess it is a matter working out whether the cost would be worth it.
I think it is a business that is very suited to online.
I recently booked a piano mover online and there was one company that looked to be getting most of the business. They were running multiple sites with different ABN's, phone etc and were far more organised than anyone else, basically they were competing with themselves because everyone else wasn't set up properly to handle online business. Still studying their business model, it wasn't easy to figure out if it was definitely the same people running multiple sites.

Would be a tiny % who would be willing to list in an unknown directory. Weak business model in my view.

Sorry Snoopy but that business model worked fine for us and many others. For us it's how how we bought our first beach resort in Thailand a few years back
.... But what would we know.. lets listen to your online business expertise and success stories!... Reminds me of the first 300 banks who thought KFC would not work .. but one did think it would work and who was right?

So how are you hoping this business model is going to work, the potential market is 5000 customers and you are suggesting selling listings for $10 ea. I think a realistic aim is 1% of the market to list, not 100%. The economics make no sense to me.

It may seem like a lot of cash to buy removalists.com.au compared to the cheaper alternatives, but a few years down the track you'll be so glad you did.
If I was in the business, I'd buy the domain and setup an online quote form which would generate leads. Keep the good local leads for yourself (assuming you are a removalist) and sell the others to removalists all over the country.

The economics of KFC didnt make sense to the first 300 banks also.. There is a little more to the business plan Snoopy.. Im not going to spell it all out here and waste evryones time teaching or lecturing non believers for no personal gain myself... but are you telling me removalists.com.au is not worth the money to buy for anyone, not worth a directory and it couldnt make any income? What are you doing buying domain names if you think this way?

-I just said that the OP should consider buying this domain, I'd didn't say nobody should buy it. What I did say is that your proposed model sounds poor to me.

I'd suggest the potential market is probably many times that. Also, I bet small removalist companies are probably very old-school types. I.e. no website so might view this as a way to get in the interweb...

Edit: Hotfrog seem to have over 10K listings (hard to put a number on it though). Interesting fact: hotfrog.com.au have 12,000,000 pages indexed by Google!!

I have www.drivinglessons.com.au yet I cannot get Driving Lesson companies to advertise at a mere $195 per annum.
What am I doing wrong? (Yellow Pages charges 5x my price and EVERYONE uses them)

Whilst a 100% fill rate is a wild figure, your presumption that Yellow Pages is the 100% market and that $10 is all you could charge, is also wild
I think he is simply putting a metric out there to demonstrate that it is a strong market. I think the domain itself has to be worth at least $2 for every potential buyer of same
