Classifieds could be hard. You'll have to develop something silky smooth which is easy to use if you want advertisers to use your service.

How do you compete against boatpoint, tradingpost and all of the small topic specific sites out there?

Not easily but I do have grand plans for it.

FYI, I've had a fair bit of experience developing classifieds sites before. 68Classifieds.com is not a bad script - fair few add-ons for it too.

Easiest way to get a classifieds site off the ground is to offer it free for 6-12 months, charge $5 or something to get their listings featured, bold or highlighted - even if you have some traffic to throw at it, or a budget. (People still want something for nothing)
