Staff exodus continues at auDA. Article on Domainer today.

Are long serving auDA employees Jacki O’Sullivan (currently Executive Assistant to the CEO); and Lisa Lunardi (Office Manager) being replaced? Or are they leaving of their own volition?

Wonder what the total staff / Director attrition has been since December 2015?

who manages the domain space if the registry agreement with AusRegistry expired?
it’s been over 6 months to date since the decision was made. Is it another 6 months - 12 months - 18 months...before the in-house registry is completed?

• What are the future plans for the industry when this is completed?
• What impact will it have on the market with supply and demand?
• What risk assessments were conducted before implementing this plan?
• Does AusRegistry have a contract arrangement with auDA during this “interim period”?

what’s the bloody point of a panel, all those people wasted their time undertaking a panel that one person can simply change instantly in defiance of member and stakeholder feedback. So we just allow them to make decisions in their own logic? Waste peoples time, effort, energy just to appease the mob so they can think they had a say?

REGISTRY TRANSFORMATION PROJECT

Without limiting the above, auDA intends for the Registry Transformation Project to include:

• registry services for the direct registration of domain names in .au at the top-level;
• registry services for second-level domain name spaces including, com.au, net.au,org.au, asn.au, id.au, conf.au, gov.au, edu.au, wa.au, nt.au, sa.au, qld.au, nsw.au, act.au, vic.au and tas.au;

auDA intends to establish a dedicated .au registry, and have all arrangements in place to support this, by 30 June 2018

Well, it looks like the auDA have already made up their mind about direct registrations of .au, it’s going to be built into the new in-house registry. Completion this time next year.

Another one bites the dust at auDA. This time it's long standing Senior Manager Paul Szyndler. Story on Domainer.

The attrition rate of staff and Directors since Stuart Benjamin suddenly took over the chairmanship of auDA in December 2015 (that’s perhaps a story for another time!) has been horrendous given the size of the organisation.

I just read with interest in The Australian and AFR that CPA Australia is having some Board turmoil over their CEO. If it's possible there; it's possible at auDA!

The Australian:

The CEO of auDA continues to make statements that are "economical with the truth". This time he has been caught out by his own members meetup video. Read Domainer article today.

Speaking of member meetups, yesterday I sent an email to auDA about the Sydney meetup. Got a reply today:

I thought I was being cynical suggest they'd get 2 people to the Sydney meetup,

Some advice for AUDA,

Most members are gathered in two places, Dntrade & Domainer.com.au. If AUDA wants to speak to members, to address concerns, to collect feedback they are right there. Instead AUDA wastes time & money flying around the country speaking to an audience of zero. Rethink your communications strategy AUDA!

Take the gag off Tim, he is the AUDA representative that connects with everyday members, stop shooting yourself in the foot by gagging the person that members trust. People want to hear it from Tim, they elected Tim to represent them!

God forbid Tim were actually allowed to speak, AUDA’s credibility may actually improve!

It is a great post and good to see someone come forward. He is probably taking a lot of risk coming forward like that and well done to him for standing up against the of AUDA. His post certainly shows the human side of all of thsi and the real effect it is having on people.

Maybe you were distracted by the large advert for the Australian Web Awards which are run by AWIA

Our friends at the Australian Web Industry Association (AWIA), have launched the prestigious 2017 Australian Web Awards (AWAs).

We recommend all auDA members participate if you are eligible and we encourage you to spread the word throughout your own networks.

I see no reference to auDA being a sponsor of the awards or of any association with them. I also do not see auDA as being a member of AWIA. Why are they promoting this event?

What I do see is that Joe Manariti a current Supply Class Director of auDA is also the Vice-Chairperson of AWIA.

I also notice that 3 of the 5 AWIA Commitee are auDA Supply Class Members as is AWIA

I've written a new article about Tim Connell today.

I'm very concerned about him as a friend - and as "our" Demand Class Director at auDA. Whilst he doesn't breach Board confidentiality to me, it's no secret that he's deemed as the odd one out at 114 Cardigan Street. And you don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out that some at auDA try to wedge him all the time (by trying to say that the Board "unanimously" resolved to do this or that).

You don't have to agree with anything if you don't feel it proper to do so Tim. Vote and express your conscience when you feel it necessary. You know that a vast majority of Demand Class members that voted for you want to see the Chair removed at the S249D meeting on 31st July. Support us in that please.

The fact is, they can't "sack" you if you do.

auDA forced us into a S249D because of their stubbornness.

Here's an excerpt from a Domainer article from 8 weeks ago (letter to Cameron Boardman at auDA):

"Whether it be government, business, non-profit organisations, or Parents and Citizens’ Associations – even Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers Association – the fact is, sometimes there will be disputes between those involved when seemingly unpopular or unfair decisions are made.

How are they resolved? By both sides engaging constructively with each other, and seeking compromise.

Good leadership of any organisation means at least listening to the concerns of its people or constituents. I urge you to do this now with your membership. Many of us are feeling angry and ignored by auDA management and the Board.

• My suggestion is to get a small representative group of members to sit down with you and some members of the Board, and try to constructively find a way forward. This could be so beneficial for everyone."

auDA forced us into a S249D because of their stubbornness.

If the chair ends up going I'd say the two issues that really promoted it were the minutes and the code of conduct, issues that would have had very little effect on AUDA if reversed but were very important to members.

They haven't exactly chosen their battles wisely to dig in heels over those issues.
