Forum is very quiet. What happened?

Have not been back here for a few years.

What happened to the community? It used to be a lot more active.

Not many forums left. Everyone that was active at talking created their own blogs and gave up on forums.

better to lock down certain features than to block sign up imo

100 new spam signups per day. Having to suspend them was becoming a full time job for someone.
we tried to reduce these but forum spammers keep changing

Surely there are some plugins for this forum software to block the majority of spam signups. Stopping new registrations will pretty be the death of the forum, which would be a shame!

Most spam sign ups are done by bots that are able to overcome your typical captcha.

On DN.ca we simply added one word to the sign up proocess and it stopped the bots cold. They are programmed for your typical Xenforo installation and as soon as you change it the bots are stopped and it takes human intervention.

At DN.ca we simply added a requirement to type in a word and if it ever gets programmed into the bots we simply change the word.

This feature is a part of Xenforo and takes only moments to activate.





Right now I see no way for a new member to join dntrade and that is unfortunate, it is such a good resource.
