Feel like I'm banging my head against a wall. Let me really, really simplify it.

Some domains have brandable value

Some domains have value based on metrics

Some domains have both types of value.

However (this is important), just because a domain only has one of these two elements doesn't mean it's worthless.

Nicely put.

builderquotes.com.au

Worth developing or not?

TIA:)

This is a decent domain imo, worth developing if you have the know-how and resources.

OK so why are you repeatedly referring to the metrics to justify how this domain is worthless?

Once again you are back to the same strategy of claiming I said something that I didn't say. Have you consider a career in journalism?

I didn't say the name was worthless, it is worth something, not a lot (I think low 2 figures), but it isn't worthless either. Joe asked if it is worth him developing, I'm saying no, definitely not. Joe probably has dozens of names that justify development before going with a name with no real metrics to speak of. There is nothing to leverage with the name.

well snoopy i can tell you "whateverwatercoolerswhocares AU" does very well thankyou

and snoopy you are consistant and predictable, you are consistantly negative which is cool because through that you bring forward valid points that we learn from, you are also consistant that you have no concept of value to an end user and i will relate it to this domain as you actually answer your own questions,

I never said it didn't do well, but I doubt the domain has made it any more successful than any other freely registerable domain in the area.

well that whole paragraph is a minefield, i think there is consistant advice across dnt about sticking to the domains that represent your passion UNLESS they are killer domain names, as an investment to sit on and do nothing with you are probably right but to say its worth noting you are totally wrong.

tim

Do you think Joe's passion is the building industry or building quotation? You are telling him it worth developing yet you say the consistent advice is to use a killer domain or choose a domain that represents your passion?

I have neither

Then my advice is to not waste your time on development.

You could try to turn a small profit by selling it to one of the forum members that seemed keen on the name.

It's not a great domain for an end user in the building industry, as it's more applicable as a comparison site - not for an individual builder/small business. For this reason it would be pretty difficult to sell to an end user in the building industry - it's really a 'domainers domain'.

Not a lot of value for resale, under $200 imo.

So you are saying there would be no value in having a specific builders directory that you would charge to list in ?

I'm saying uploading some script & making a listing service is no business model. Easy enough to say "charge to list in it", buy why would anyone pay? Have you had success with this model spacey?

I feel like we are at domainers Christmas dinner, Spacey just pulled a bon bon and the message inside say

"Take the domain, buy a script and start a list service".

At the next table someone pulls his and gets,

"Start a forum on the name & charge for membership"

The guy next to him gets,

"Your domain is worth $100 now and $500 developed as a minisite".
