The 2010 Names Policy Panel recommended that the 2 year fixed policy should be changed. The board decided to hold a decision until the costs and technical issues were looked into. Doesn't seem to be any mention of it since then and seems to have been swept under the table.

Hey Lemon, it hasn't been swept under the table at all. It was decided that this would be evaluated when the registry tender was up, which is 2017. There were complexities in implementing variable terms during the existing Registry agreement. I like the idea of the variable terms, having been a member of the 2010 Names Policy Panel.

I didn't realise the registry tender was for such a long period although I see Ausregistry had their license extended in 2013 which presumably was after some negotiations. I note that it wasn't until June 2013 that the board decided to postpone the 2010 names panel recommendations until 2017. I think everyone would agree that variable terms are a must. I suppose change takes time.

On 12th Nov the panel will finalise the policy recommendations, along the lines of the draft recommendations, for the board to consider.
Then it is up to the board to consider what should be done, if anything. The board agenda is published one week before the board meeting and the minutes are published after the meetings.

I doubt any company out there could compete with ausregistry for tender, especially when ausregistry have proven system technology and infrastructure to maintain administration. Any new entrant would be required to spend big

I'd think any registry could run this, I guess it might depend somewhat on how much infrastructure they need in Australia.
