Here is a very interesting thread from Namepros about .ca. Most of the commentary from people who have invested in it is negative, many parallels with .AU except that they don't have the instability issues from their regulator. You can see how direct registrations haven't done anything much for .ca even though they've had it for 20 years. It is weaker than 3rd level namespaces such as .com.au and .co.uk,
