ngTLDs decreased by approximately 2.5 million domain name registrations, or 10.4 percent, year over year.
Total ccTLD domain name registrations were approximately149.7 million at the end of the second quarter of 2018, an increase of about 3.5 million domain name registrations (up 2.4%), compared to the first quarter of 2018. ccTLDs increased by approximately 5.5 million domain name registrations year over year, a 3.8% rise.
The .nets did not fare as well. They stood at approximately 14.1 million registrations at the end of 2Q-2018, about300,000 down from the previous quarter and approximately 1 million down from the same time a year ago (a loss of 6.6%).
As of June 30, 2018, the .comdomain name base totaled approximately 135.6 milliondomain name registrations, 1.7 million more than the previous quarter (a 1.3% increase). Year over year that is about 6.4 million more .com registrations - a 5% rise.
Total new gTLD domain name registrations were approximately 21.8 million at the end of the second quarter of 2018, an increase of approximately 1.6 million domain name registrations, or 7.9%, compared to the first quarter of 2018
You forgot the rest of the paragraph. Let me fix that for you...Total new gTLD domain name registrations were approximately 21.8 million at the end of the second quarter of 2018, an increase of approximately 1.6 million domain name registrations, or 7.9%, compared to the first quarter of 2018
However, that rebound came after the new gTLDs had a massive year over year loss of over 20% of their total registrations at the end of 1Q-2018. At the end of 2Q-2018 they were still below the same point a year ago, but in that time frame the loss (down about 2.5 million names from the end of 2Q-2017) was cut in half percentage wise to minus 10.4%.
one thing i found interesting in the article is the attraction to the availability of BETTER KEYWORDS in the domain name with nTLD's, doesn't that go against the " google killed the EMD theory" ?This is a good study on the problem gtlds currently face, as will .au - trust. https://www.semrush.com/blog/new-research-visitors-don-t-trust-alternative-domain-extensions/

Poland and Australia also joined the Russian federation and the United States as top 20 ccTLDs exceeding 20 percent year-over-year growth. Among the 20 largest ccTLDs, Poland, Australia, Canada and Switzerland exceeded 4 percent quarter over quarter growth. Last quarter, four of the top 20 met the same threshold.
au growth exceeds 20% YoY
whereas .com is 5% YoY
.au growth exceeds 4% QoQ
and .com a measly 1.3% QoQ
Someone should start a new thread:
"Declining popularity of .com"
Did you just make that up?
"Declining popularity of .com"
simple MATH !
.com growth as a % can not exceed .com.au because of the current registrations of each, we have a pissy 3mil and .com ***mil?? no way you can compare them ans state "the decline of .com" ( and i'm not a fan of .com)
that smaller % i think without checking would relate to MASSIVELY more rego's then .com.au
so when comparing you need to use the right technique IMO.
