Hey guys, I might be able to come :)

When you have worked out a date and time I'll create a new thread and add to meetup page.

Tues 20th is good for me. Lets do it close to the auDA offices again, that was fun. I cannot make Mon 19th even though the cheap euro beer was fun.

I can't make it. I do want you if you can to collectively talk about some major auDA issues.

So you have something to talk about besides sport and family etc maybe watch the videos from Jim Stewart PLUS try to get the auDA PRP meeting Audio and presentations from Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Crazy stuff which is having a massive damaging affect on our trusted ,au namespace.

Brett Fenton and Melbourne IT MUST resign from the auDA PRP or be removed. They should not have ever been on it with their previous actions around the proposed competing .au extension and some statements made against rightful .au domain name owners..

"Is Brett Fenton and Melbourne IT's agenda running the auDA PRP agenda to push this in? Reading past submissions and public materials I can certainly see some links..."

Brett Fenton has been a director of auDA, is on a number of names panels and is currently the Chief Customer Officer of Melbourne IT Group.

It seems they even said the words "lets push for this change" themselves!

"We strongly encourage everyone to vote to support the change. Australia is behind the rest of the world in many things, but let’s push for this change!"

I don’t get it.
Brett Fenton states his position is for direct reg, everyone else states their position against it and you think Brett needs to be removed?
The whole point of the panel is to have representatives on it, with experience and with a point of view. The others more than balance the odds.
He has heaps of industry experience, he has heaps of policy review experience too. He was even around before auDA.

Yep and if you need advice on how to present invalid, out of context, one question surveys as support for direct registrations... Hit him up.

well i am gonna ignore the above and state my timestamp TWO F'n 31am !!!

hows that for commitment? bloody vic transport and i am STILL not home, i am currently waiting for a cab at my end train station because they closed my train line, put me on a bus then a 1 hour wait for another train that then dumped me here !

but back to the meetup !

i knowwwwww i say it every time but they are GREAT, tonight we just debated the world and disagreed but we got to KNOW what each persons views really were.
so many positives for me came from tonight and one is that supply and demand need to come together and understand each other, on the surface this will be seen unpopular on dnt, it just a realisation that there are better ways then "the best worst way"

i stand for only the best way, and if that way is no way then that is the way, any logical organisation would chose that? surely.

The problem to me seems to be that Mr Boardman has told the panel to find a way, any way, no matter how bad.

Is this why the panel seems to be now looking at what was described as "the least worst outcome"?

I think I have said this before. Domainers did not like his survey and they screamed foul. The auDA board listened and conducted their own survey with the same result. Domainers still scream foul. It is time to stop trying to find fault and time to take responsibility for shaping the future. It really does not matter if you and I disagree on the YES/NO debate, what is important is that we both try to shape a better HOW result.

I said it last night so it might be worth repeating here. Retail Registrars in Australia (ie not drop catchers) make money by selling hosting and other services. They also sell other extensions. I estimate that 30% of their existing customers are Australian's who are not yet eligible for a .com.au and need an alternative (Students, Artists, Stay at home mums and dads, Professors, Employees of large organisations). They already sell .com, .io, .xyz, .sydney and .melbourne domains to these customers. They would prefer to sell them a .au domain. Brett has dedicating almost two decades of his experience and literally thousands of hours of his time to explain to everyone that 1) There is already a demand for a .au domain that is recognisable and open to people BEFORE they have a business up and running. and 2) Making money from direct registrations is not the motivation (they make same money from .xyz or .au).

Every panel that has ever been convened has a terms of reference... it has nothing to do with the current CEO.
There has to be a limit to what they discuss and a line must be drawn in order to make any progress. This is how it has always been and how it will be for the foreseeable future.
Another way to describe "least worst outcome" is the "most fair outcome" there is nothing inherently wrong with either description.

The hard truth is that there is going to be some pain but it will be limited to a relatively small group and it is not going to be nearly as bad as you make it out to be.

Is it fair to say that anything good for .au (be it .com.au or .au directly) is not good for you so when I hear you screaming foul and making a fuss I have to assume that they must be going in the right direction or snoopy would not have his knickers in a knot.
