STORY------------------------------------
SOOOOO, long story so dip out now LOL
SO, i go pick up the kids from school, to do this i park 1klm from the school and walk through the "green way" to the school, this way i don't fight the 10 thousand angry parents fighting for a car park in front of school WHILST facebooking in traffic !!!
soooooooooo everyday i walk past this house, it has a high wood fence and it has a vine growing over it producing some sort of fruit/vege? so a few weeks ago i stole one ! to take home and find out what it is ( i'm an aspiring gardener) but icut it open and even helena who has horticutral background didn't know what it is !
SOOO, today i had some spare time and i "knocked the door" it opened and a little old chinese lady was there, now this is NO way racist but she didn't speak or understand english, so here i am just wanting ONE answer "what is that fruit/veg?"
so she comes outside to the plant and we discuss it, well basically it was sign language, sooo funny. she give me this LARGE fruit/veg, rips it of the vine herself and hands it to me whilst other smaller ones are still on the vine and growing.
i think WOW, she has given me the largest fruit/veg she has so i ask how to eat it using pointed fingers to my mouth and a questioning expresion on my face, she signs a chopping/slicing style, ENTER the husband ! he's come out wondering where she is, i think OMG maybe he knows some english...ummmmmmm NO, nothing, nowhere, nudda, gone ! and he just laughs??
they have a conversation in whatever language they speak and a giggle and then she turns to me and signs what i interpreted as " but don't eat it, large ones are crap"
then points to a small one and signs something like " this one is good...BYE BYE don't take the small ones"
ohh so funny, she was lovely and then bowed alot so maybe japanese not chinese and sorry for that error.
i love it, it reminds me of africa, but that just to many stories.
tim
sooooo now i have a very big fruit /veg, i'll cut it open and dry the seed and plant them next summer, i asked her when to plant by bending down and pushing my thumb into the ground, she managed to tell me to plant in summer by gestering sunshine and doubled up by shaking her head and pretending to shiver so she could tell me the season, isn't that great.
