I have been a member for over 15 years, voted at the AGM every year, gone through all the generic and geographic auctions etc etc and still have no communication from them as a MEMBER of auda (one of 200). It sucks. And it has gotten worse in the last 6 months. What happened to build membership base, transparency, communication. It sucks

How about the other 3 million+ existing Australia .au registrants who know even less?

auDA and the board have manipulated things over the years for their own benefit not that of existing .au registrants or even auDA members.

auDA could and can very easily have emailed all registrants and kept them informed PLUS offered an unsubscribe. That would show some transparency and good governance.

Yes I appreciate that, but I'd still like to know how much they get payed.
This information was once upon a time contained in the auDA Minutes. Unfortunately, under the new "secret society" regime, these have all been taken down. However, if you have a look at this "information for prospective candidates" (from auDA), it says;

Fees and expenses
The auDA Board meets six times a year, usually in Melbourne. Elected Directors receive a sitting fee per meeting attended (in person or by teleconference), in addition to reimbursement of travel expenses.

I believe the "sitting fee" is now around $1100 (but I might be wrong). I can't see any reason why either Erhan @Cooper Mills DomainLawyer or Tim @findtim shouldn't be able to disclose this.

The last communication about membership from auDA was that it was closed to new members.

I guess they wanted to keep the status quo ie keep the supply class members who were also demand class members happy so that the supply class held sway on both sides.

I was told by auDA membership was open.
I lodged an official complaint the demand side has been stacked by supply related parties and the whole membership process is flawed. Their response was they are looking at it.....
auDA knows the supply side has stacked the demand side also and this sways any votes for policy, board etc in the favour of supply... Yet they auDA have done nothing..Why? because Supply runs auDA and Supply runs the auDA Board.

I have been told many of the Supply members " demand" votes went to Simon ( Demand auDA Board Member). Simon is this why you backflipped on wholesale registry tender and the proposed competing additional .au extension? Did you get those Supply "demand" votes or is this rumour not correct? Certainly we have not seen any engagement from you on Dntrade.com.au or Domainer or even candidate statements last election... with the supply demand member numbers perhaps you didnt need to do much for real demand member votes?

Simon Many of us voted you in at the start and what have we seen or heard from you since? At least Tim is still putting in an effort and showing some engagement!

auDA membership should be FREE and open to registered domain name owners . I vote per person or entity.
No contractors or suppliers to auDA should be on the auDA Board - Sorry Ausregistry that means you. It is too much of a conflict of interest

Agree, just a quick glance and the member list and the situation is ridiculous, Supply board members who are also demand members, people with the same surname signing up. Ausregistry with two membership in almost the same company name, could it be any more obvious? People aren't even trying to hide it anymore.

Im unsure what each person is paid, but i have compiled an average per person based on the previous years reporting;

Sorry to digress but there's another quite important thread that has been brought to my attention by another member here, and doesn't seem to have that much interest, as yet. The AusRegistry news is important, but feedback on direct registrations is equally if not more important.

Apparently there's another auDA .au survey...
https://www.dntrade.com.au/threads/auda-au-survey-thanks-for-telling-members-not.11329/

Needless to say, I heard nothing about it from auDA, despite a) being an auDA member, b) participating in the phone survey and c) being a com.au registrant. For whatever reason I missed it in DN Trade "new posts" as well.

Read the thread and complete the survey if you haven't done so already... Please.

Some news here, I'm assuming AUDA has been getting this together for a while to be able to announce a new appointment so soon after the Ausregistry announcement.

Update on the Registry Transformation Project

Appointment of Dr Bruce Tonkin
We’re therefore delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Bruce Tonkin to the auDA team, as the Registry Transformation Project Lead.

Dr Tonkin was most recently Chief Strategy Officer for Melbourne IT Limited. He was involved in the founding of auDA, and has been a regular participant in the Competition and Names Policy Advisory Panels since formation. He has also served nine years on the Board of ICANN (Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers).

Registry Transformation Project
The Registry Transformation Project team will be assisted by an Industry-led Advisory Panel, in addition to a Registrar Liaison Board.

You guys are talking about a fight I am not really in, I am well aware of their tactics but when it comes down to it I am not really a .com.au domainer so my attention is going elsewhere

No worries, can understand.

People's #1 priority should be be not investing or reducing their investment in .com.au in my view. AUDA has done significant damage to the aftermarket with a couple of years of uncertainty and that is going to spread to endusers in my view. Actions like sending out emails to registrants with polls about the potential change will begin to put them off in my view.

Interesting to see what auDA Director Joe Manariti''s company Swim Communications wrote about the now fellow auDA Board Member company Crazy Domains....

Would this now be a breach of the member code of conduct?

How did Crazy Domains get a seat on the auDA Board?
https://www.swim.com.au/you-dont-have-to-be-crazy/

We have become aware that Crazy Domains is under investigation by the industry regulator. We are concerned there will be troubled times ahead and we strongly recommend that anyone currently using Crazy Domains should reconsider their registrar.

If you would like help selecting a new registrar please contact us for advice. For further information on the investigation please see the auDA website.

That's a good find Sean; the things that occupy your time!

Whilst that article would be a tad embarrassing for old "Teflon Joe" ;), it is in the past. People and organisations have moved on. And yes, imo, that sort of "sledge" would probably be against the new Code of Conduct if it happened in July 2017. On the other hand, if it could be argued that if there were legitimate concerns as evidenced by auDA themselves, then how could it be contrary? Hurt feelings and embarrasment perhaps? ;)

Not everything is deleted from the auDA website - they have just changed URL's for many things. You can access all "Crazy" stories here.

Moral of the story is for all existing Members to get their "sledges" in before the end of June!
