What do other people think of this decision as it appears the domain was registered well before the Trademark.

I think the owner has made pretty big mistake with all the Tyas Wittermann stuff. If someone "manufactures" a usage and a panel can easily through that it suggests they aren't entitled to the domain. It is a bit like walking down the street, seeing a policeman, then turning around and running in the opposite direction. The person may have done nothing wrong but they look guilty, it looks like "bad faith"

It is the kind of situation where the owner needs to know what they are doing early on and a lot of people would stuff it up in similar fashion. It is pretty hard to know how much money to throw at something like this but it is probably worth budgeting $20k etc in legal fees to try and get a very high price for the name given the wealth of the buyer.

What would have been fair use in this case, Snoopy? Some kind of Ornithology website?

Fair use would have been whatever he registered it for prior to twitter coming out, not some made up garbage. A better argument would be, "hey I registered this name back in the day for [insert real reason], I still own it and am entitled to own it".

tyas is an idiot

I very much doubt there was ever any "Tyas".
