this is a pure RANT by me
http://www.smh.com.au/national/publ...mputer-screen-at-the-ato-20141031-11e1q1.html

WHY, do i have to pay so much tax to pay for idiots to run the country ?

i have 2 relatives working in canberra right now, a nephew & a cousin and they both have told me that their jobs have been cancelled but come to work anyway !!!

i have a friend that got made redundant a few years ago and got a huge payout then got reemployed by the government as a consultant, this way they can use her knowledge and then stop anytime.

they sit at their desks and basically surf the net and facebook !

the reason, the government is slowly sacking people because if they sack 20K in 1 week it looks bad, and my rels are not yet on the list.

but as this article says, currently employed gov people can not use the hardware that just sits there.

so bottom line is i am paying for my rels to sit @ and do nothing !

SH*TS me

The same thing happened to a friend of mine, they were working at Sydney Trains government job for 7 years, made redundant (huge payout) and the rehired as a consultant and paid more. It is a real joke.

Personally my business is paying a lot of tax and gst now, I hope business owners get some additional concessions. It seems only very large businesses get them.

Feel exactly the same way. Tax system is an absolute joke. Small business pays ridiculous in ratio to large business in Australia or at least it feels that way.

Government sector is notoriously inefficient.

Slashing jobs once, then rehiring the skilled ones as contractors means they can do things like downsize without lashback from unions and the media.

Has served some big companies well.

This doesn't read like a genuine story to me. The only thing factual is that ATO staff were told not to move equipment. The rest is numbers based on "rumours" that it cost $200 to move monitor. If even a newspaper calls it a rumour, you can bet there is no credibility in the number at all. The need verifiable number and they need to say who their source is, if they won't do that, they probably polled 10 in the newspaper office and chose the highest number.

They've written a "popular" article, not a credible one. Because anything that talks about the government wasting money, people love that!

There is a lot of mileage available when it comes to government stories. Take your pick from dozens of government topics every day. Just mention how we are all hurting because of something that was done, and people immediately react, and start complaining, and then create backlinks to the article. Jobs done... marketing is so easy given the right content and the proper connection with the audience.

i know peter you didn't mean it this way and nor did i , in hindsight i should have made it a no valid link, it was the context of the story i was talking about.

but you do raise some good points on running off the back of different articles to gain links .

but my single point was government wasting MY money :(

The article contains nothing of any substance about the government wasting money though. It is a piece written to be popular, that is how a lot of these media outlets work.

Tomorrow they'll have an article on Australian's getting fatter, and the next day it will be a story on McDonald's new hamburger.
