I think .photo is a much better sounding extension but launching later something very similar is a big negative.

The key thing in my view is that is a Uniregistry extension so I'd guess it is going to get half the volume or less than it might get if it had distribution through Godaddy and major registrars.

Dynadot and enom have been cheaper than godaddy, but probably more exposure at godaddy. I think there is also .photos as well as .photo? I think there will be confusion with that, so i prefer .photography in that case. Read during the week that magazine.photography sold for $3500, there will always be some sales i guess

There is also .pics and who knows what else, seems at least 4 very similar extensions.

The main thing is, any registry that is not with godaddy isn't really in the game. Godaddy are 4 times the size of the next biggest and the most public facing registrar perhaps except network solutions. If you are known by domainers but the general public can't see you then I think not only will the general public not buy but domainers won't buy much either.

So not being with Godaddy is the kiss of death in my view, but added to that that haven't partnered with almost every other major registrar.

Yep godaddy are the 'Big One' when it comes to registras,must be all those superbowl ads, love them or hate them godaddy has promoted domains far better than any other company/registra

it just seems to be now to "messy"

I know a few members feel its not going to increase the value of the current domains but I think it has to , people are just going to get confused and turn back to the "classics" of .com and .com.au imo

magazine.photography to me is as worthless as a hypen or a net.au

far to much money in advertising and branding to be done.

I don't see how that would increase the value of old extensions, unless new tld have somehow created more demand for domains in general. There is extra money flowing in right now but if the new tlds collapse that extra money is going to go with it.

i looked at a one letter name at godaddy and it was $400 but at dynadot and enom $200 , cant say i have heard of heart. I think the sheer numbers behind all this new stuff will bring change, whether good or bad is debatable but there will be some huge advertising to come with these gtld's.

The first movers have a big advantage in my view. They've got first go at a whole lot of fresh money from domainers.

No idea about this particular sale, butI think there is probably a very small number of endusers (like a handful) who get so nervous about some particular domain that they will pay a silly price. It is basically a lightening strike event and whilst good for the registry doesn't help domainers.

I would like to see some of these domains up for re-sale and see how much they are asking. Might not be long I would think, some lots of these may have been purchased to sell again at a hopeful profit.

People already have mail severs, I don't see what the attraction is for a .email.
