Would expect this to end somewhat lower given it is no longer on the radar of a lot of drop buyers. Second sales quickly never look great either.

Trouble is with a reserve it's not going to make the front page so it's already disadvantaged compared with the original 'sale'. Then there's the lemon effect which further hampers it.

But perhaps the seller doesn't care. After all it costs him nothing so maybe there's merit in just relisting and relisting with a reserve just in case. Only need to sell 1 domain to profit.

Saying that, I would think the above factors (lemon effect and lack of front page) would make it so unlikely as to not be worth the effort.

IMO if you are listing a caught expired domain, you should do it once and do it right. Have a decent crack at marketing it and hope that the longer than 24 hour window that the drops give will get a higher price.

I'm not sure "looks" matter THAT much.

I think BY FAR the biggest reason this domain will underperform is simply because of the simple maths of it.

Specifically the number of buyers has diminished since the new owner purchased it.

If this domain was bought at auction and he was the highest bidder, then that means the person willing to pay the most is now the second highest bidder, given that new owner is now no longer bidding and the past owner is unlikely to buy it is he just sold it.

So the idea you can buy a domain at auction, then sell it the next day on the same auction platform is flawed because the actual number of buyers has reduced.

From my perspective the "inherent value" of domains hasn't really changed over the last 5 - 7 years, the only thing that has changed is the "number" of buyers that recognise the value and who are willing to buy them which is what is forcing prices up over time.

And the only reason why domain prices will go higher from here is if even more businesses become aware of the value of domain names.

Excellent points Chris.

Also, just in relation to this particular domain, any prudent buyer doing their homework would perhaps be reluctant to touch it. I'll say no more than that.

I just googled 'toy barn' - funnily enough the NF parking page seems to have merged with the G+ page and is the first result in 3,500,000 results!

Righto - so you bought this domain on the drops and then almost immediately try and sell it to a business called "The Toy Barn".

Good luck with that one.

That's the sort of thing auDA frowns upon (if a complaint is made).

thats the hypocrisy of it, you can put it on AMA the next day just as long as you don't tell anyone.

What are you smoking Tim?

For a start, two totally different subjects. Your first post was not the best advice for either novice or experienced domainers - it is (imho) a clear breach of auDA policy. That is why the policy is there - to prevent that happening.

With regards the "hypocrisy", did you not read this thread? https://www.dntrade.com.au/newbies/7240-my-first-percieved-need-know-question.html#post52765

Having said all this, I do understand your thinking. If we were selling any other commodity, picking up the phone would be a smart thing to do. But we're not - we're dealing in Aussie domains, and we have to follow the rules (whether we like them or not).

Have you joined auDA yet? ;) Members banding together can help make changes to policies we don't like.

Cheers, Ned

Expect even lower. It is lemon effect now.

Both you boys were right again. Was passed in at $10 yesterday.

Things are looking up.

Has again been relisted for sale, and with 8 days to go is already up to $300 (though reserve hasn't been met). https://www.netfleet.com.au/ToyBarn.com.au

I'm glad I believe in the Easter Bunny.

Shill bidding?

ooooow , whats everyones feeling on that?

It may be perfectly legitimate - he could well have done some enduser marketing this time around.

It just looks "strange".

  1. Buys the domain on the drops; then immediately lists for sale on AMA.

  2. First time gets passed in at $100 - reserve not met.

  3. Puts it up again almost immediately - gets passed in for $10. Reserve not met.

  4. Puts it up again - and with 8 days to go, it is already at $300. (Reserve not met). To get to that figure, it means there must be at least two bidders on it.
