not bad, not sure i like those crosses on the side , its like my eyes are constantly refocusing
just "too pink" , i was unsure and then i hit a drop menu and BAM, PINKKKK
i did some search tests and i think your postcode search is slightly out, PM me about what i did.
when i search a photographer and i get to their page the breadcrumb will only take me backto home, i think you need another level in there to the previous search criteria results page.

- Your opening paragraph / intro doesn't stand out and grab me. It's sort of one long blurb in a few lines that tries to encompass everything you do. It doesn't contain a call to action either.
I'm not a design expert, but I'd try and increase that block size a little (vertically), and use fonts, bolding, spacing and maybe some type of bullet points or similar.
- I think your directory structure should be modified slightly. e.g. If I go to your "Find a Photographer" drop down box and choose "Wedding Photographers", my only options are the capital cities.
So if I was looking for a photographer in Port Douglas, I don't have that option. Now I know from searching further that there is a Port Douglas photographer in there, but I had to go to advanced search - and I found it under "Brisbane".

Looks great David, but I would bold the white text in the pink menus as it is hard to read. I would have all of your social media links in the header, these types of sites work well with social media, particularly facebook and twitter

Hi David,
Congrats on the site.
Consider the following:
- generally when users come to your site they would be fully aware of your directory and than rather having to locate the button link in the menu I would recommend you have the filter process displayed on the site (such an example when looking to get a quote / book a flight the booking engine filter process is displayed) this way your users d not need to go looking for links etc. This seems basic but a very critical process in directory formation. and this way you could add your text content on the right panel beside the filter formation. Try enlarging the first line of content text in a large size - the remaining content the user can read from "about us" (generally and most times less is best with content on home page)
- consider reviewing your menu bar to be incorporated within in the top banner section and simply hide the email id & password boxes and only display the login button but try changing the button name to Photographers Login and when the login page displays you would show the alternative photographers sign up here / Register
- try removing the cornered curves from the picture panels links (photo prints are now squared - no curves)
This site has great potential and with every site it generally takes about 3 months to fine tune.

when i started building ecom sites i found we had heaps of uncompleted sales, i tested and tested.................... and so did helena and so did the clients but what i found was we became " to close to the forest to see the trees"
then a few years back i ended up in a room full of rels all with vastly different internet experience, some who have never bought online, some who do all the time and the middle ground.
I was lucky enough to convince a dozen of them to try to make a purchase via one of my sites as i just watched and said nothing.
POWERFUL feedback ! i took that info and changed a few things in the cart process and we decreased uncompleted sales by 85%
what i am saying is its all good to ask our/dnt opinion but in the end we are sophisticated users, its good/GREAT to ask others and SIT and watch how they navigate your website.
I now get my family to beta test all my sites LOL, especially my 75yr old mum and dad, and my 50yr old "internet illiterate brother inlaw" , its amazing the logic that they bring forward.

Not sure about this, on one hand it is something that should work, on the other the main term isn't huge given the type of site.
I think the site is going to need to rank well on a lot of different terms to really bring in big enough volumes to supply leads to a whole lot of different geographical areas. Would say it is going to need to work with adwords also, as it is going to get spanked in the free section when trying to compete on local terms. The only positions worth having will be 1-3 on a many terms when local listings kick in.
Personally would not be spending much time regarding looks of the site, it looks fine. The main thing is it needs a really strong business model. Obviously doesn't have that yet, that plus ranking on an ongoing basis is 99% of this business I think, design is 1%. Don't get caught up with unimportant stuff, would be experimenting with business models right away, that is my suggestion.

snoopy's right in design is 1%, you can evolve that as you go, just get started ! on getting the listings.
i think your "why free" explaination is a good one.
listings will also add in search terms so that will help you with your rankings
i didn't see a sitemap link? google links you making its life easier.

Great looking site - 6440 is a lot of likes for a new site.
It should be quite easy to build your Facebook following even more now for free.

Care to share your method?
You already have your content - photos. Most photographers also have their own Facebook page. Easy done.
Do a daily/twice daily post, upload a certain image of the photographers, briefly describe the image and then @name the photographers Facebook page. Where you can, ALWAYS try and ask a question to your followers (without trying to criticise the photographer). Then at the end of the post bit.ly (so you can use the inbuilt analytics) link to the photographers profile on your site (This will help generate the views).
By @naming the photographer, it will show up in all of their fans feeds, therefore giving yourself much more exposure.
Images will create more responses then just words.
Post in the mornings and afternoons (before work/afterwork) when users are most active. Use Hootsuite to automate it all.
By using this method with a local car blog/facebook page, I helped build it from 5k -> 35K followers in just over a year.
