That's a great article James and yes certainly more detailed :) Thanks for pointing that one out.

It is a bit like the cassette salesman saying he still uses a tape walkman, and therefore that is proof of general usage with the population. When a domainer says he types in random address, that is saying nothing at all.

Not many people use direct navigation when they don't already know the existing site, and that usage is in gradual decline. Having said that it is still a strong sign of a quality domain, potentially a good basis for a business, and solid if declining revenue source for domainers.

Exact match domains still work if you have the correct SEO and digital strategy in play and you build a high quality site...
Agree James.

I think people are taking this the wrong way. Create a great content site on an ordinary domain, and the site will still do well, if done properly.

This sums it up for me:

"Keep in mind that this doesn’t mean sites with keywords they hope to rank for in their domain names are now doomed. Rather, the change aims to target low quality sites that might be riding on on the basis of exact matching." - Quote from Schwartz on this article: The EMD Update: Google Issues "Weather Report" Of Crack Down On Low Quality Exact Match Domains

EMDs are still working extremely well for my business.

I doubt we get any type-ins, and I'm not sure what SEO benefits they possess now, but what some people may be overlooking is the appearance of authority that a good EMD gives from the client's perspective.

Not sure on that either.

but what some people may be overlooking is the appearance of authority that a good EMD gives from the client's perspective.

I think this is very hard to measure though. It is going to be a hard ro sell on that basis in my view.

The flip side of that is they don't make for strong brands. If I call my business "sydney mechanic" I'm opening the door to competition (potentially competition that will outrank me) every time someone searches for my business in Google.
