OK, so I know this sounds an oddball thought on many levels, and I'm not suggesting it's practical or likely; but how about the prospect of domain names with no TLD at all?
Instead of entering shoes.com in the address bar of the browser, it would just be "shoes".
There'd be all sorts of technical hurdles amongst other considerations, but if it were to happen the impact on the domain name landscape as we know it would be profound!
Imagine the values of such names, and the effect on the value of existing names.
If it were to happen, could there be a fair way of rolling it out?
It'd be like the issue of .au or .uk ccTLDs but on a global scale.
