Nice find Ned. I could have done with this earlier this morning when responding to a couple of "You want HOW much?" emails :)

Gut feeling is perhaps 150k, I think they probably overpaid on the singular.

Snoopy, every 'big' sale has someone overpaying in your opinion and every 'small' sale is indicative of the strength of the market, let's face it.

I think it's a perfectly reasonable purchase. Exacts aren't that exciting but 201,000 local phrase is pretty damn good. Esp for a CPC of $15.64

I knew I remembered this domain - it dropped in 2009 I think and DW caught it. Anyone remember what it fetched back then?

BTW when a big sale like this pops up in mainstream media, we should all comment and tweet about it etc.

If, that is, we want Joe Public to know more about the value of domain names.

James,

HomeLoan.com.au was previously owned by "Homeloan Services ACT" Eligibility ID: ACT BN F 00086110 (ACT). That name was removed from ASIC but re-registered again, don't know when as there is no ABN record.

As for homeloancalculator.com.au the guy who owned it before Aura Capital snapped it accidently let it lapse. He valued it at $50K.

Any value

Hey Crew,

Love the fact that these domains are going for such great numbers, which got me thinking, if these names are fetching such a price would there be any value at all in similar .com domains but with a hyphen "au" etc..such as:

homeloancalculator-au.com
lifeinsurance-au.com
carloans-au.com

I have a quite a few of them but they are up for renewal soon and was not sure whether I should hang on to them and develop or just let them slide.
Appreciate all positive and negative feedback :)

Let them drop....good grief.

Sorry to say but those domains are shockers. Please don't renew!

Remember it's extremely hard to rank a .com in Australia and it's a bad fit for consumer recognition. The hyphens will confuse people, as will the au before the com. They might even get confused with NR's au.com 'tld' (eg carloans.au.com). All in all, let 'em slide...

I just came across this article in an industry magazine I read...

home-loan-domains.jpg

The figure of $133,000 quoted in the original post and article may be quite conservative given that the buyer claims to have spent "hundreds of thousands" on the two domains.

Good to see a bit more coverage for domain name sales. :)

I was running DW at the time of the sale - sold for ~20k but at the last second the domain was retracted from the purge by Ausreg/auda and the registrant was able to keep the name ... I cannot remember the reason why this happened.
