It appears it is ok to go to MYOB and reg a free domain name in someone elses personal name .com.au

No decent and fair changes will come until new AUDA Board members and new staff are put into AUDA. Sadly people at AUDA seem to have set themselves up as long term employees and not on contracts to give other a chance at running the show ever. I suppose if you are making good money and can set yourself up for life in a " non profit org" such as Auda why would you want to let someone else take your job ever and why would you make it easy for people you dont want having input to have any input

Auda was not the original administrations of the .com.au but they seem to think they own it all and will run it forever.

Legally if you had the money and time you could probably make a change and get in a whole new regulatory / admin body again. ( like they did when they took over from Melbourne it)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.au tells a brief history 99% of people and .com.au holders would not even know. Note this forum even gets a mention as the "Australian Domainers Community" .... Maybe we could take up management of the .au system?

As for the name issue, many people share the same name. The fact someone has registered YourName.com.au or YourName.com before you is pretty common.

It was recently registered by someone using my COMPANY name and ABN not my sole trader ABN. Probably by someone that did not realise that my dnTRADE username is MY company name and that David Underhill (me) also has a SoleTrader ABN. A malicious MyobAtlas Site was placed on it and was even linked to on a dnTRADE thread.
There appeared to be little checking that the person creating the account and requesting the FREE Name is the Lawful and rightful holder of the ABN.

However auDA and Myob/Google were very helpful, a few faxed documents proving company ownership and ABN status and the name was dropped. They gave me djuqaptyltd.com.au the correct name matching my company ABN and today I was given the name davidunderhill.com.au under my Personal ABN.

So the upshot is I now have DavidUnderhill.com.au correctly registered using David Underhill's (Sole trader ) ABN NOT using djuqa Pty Ltd.'s (Company) ABN.
