i agree its an end user price, i mostly think end user not domainer as i stated people would have been marketing it outbound.

as for me changing my price.... S^^T happens but as spacey said there are many houses in australia.

all we have seen today is someone willing to pay the price and that is good.

It's an excellent end user price - but a major F&$k up somewhere else.

I'd spoken to the former registrant on quite a few occasions re domain buys. Looking at the pre-drop NS this is an ex-OMG domain that must have been bought by the previous registrant (and never updated) - very surprised to see this one drop. Can't have been deliberate.

One of the things that bugs me about .com.au is the two year time limit on registration.

My most precious .com domains are registered for 8-10 years and I've got an automatic renewal of another year as each year passes. That's a great safety net that I can't use for the handful of .com.au domains that I would be devastated to lose.

Hi Guys,

The auction is currently under investigation, as such I can't go into detail.

It's not time for pitchforks or tinfoil and has nothing to do with the previous registrant. It will be resolved by COB tomorrow and I'll post an update then.

Cheers,

-Cam

Hi Guys,

Quick update on what happened with this one.

The top bidder on this domain was a fraudulent user that joined Drop moments before the auction completed with all fake details. Unfortunately, there's been a little bit of this lately.

The domain has now been correctly awarded to the highest valid bidder.

Cheers,

-Cam

thanks for the knowledge, i had a similar thing happen on another platform and i was the under bidder, i was later awarded the domain but honestly i still wonder it i paid the correct price as i was being pushed up by the other person.

i don't have a solution and its only happened once but still it doesn't feel right.

mine was for only a few hundred bucks so no big deal, this one is a lot different

You've overpaid, the auction house should not be profiting from people fraudulently bidding up the price. You should be paying $1 more than the next highest genuine bidder.

that is what i was told, what i ended up paying was less then the end price i bid: eg i bid "say" $1000 and the other person bid something else to win, i then was ask to purchase for @ $750 which i agreed, BUT who knows what influence the other bidding did to push it up ?

so in this example and this is speculation as it was some time ago and i have NO records of the event except i now own the domain.

if the fake bidder bids at $200 that is going to spark some interest ( it wasn't an AMA ) , another bidder bids at $500 but i still feel the $200 bid has reference to the final bid in the auction competition.

So if we look at rugs dot com au we could speculate that the end price could have been far different.

i know we are not going to get this answer but itwould be VERY interesting to see if the NF $22222 bid was from the underbidder and now owner of RUGS

i mean , isn't this part of why we are on DNT !

maybe NF could post it in the private forum, that would be NICE :D

Thanks for the update.

Are there any ways to prevent these type of fraud from recurring from a risk management perspective?

What happens to the fraudster, if anything?
