I have dm.net.au which I bought from someone here. I wouldn't have bought a .net.au if it wasn't a ll. That said, I've decided t drop my initials .id.au as it became evident it was pointless just for the sake of owning it. This year is actually a year of drops for me. Ahhh the learning curve.....
Dm wasn't expensive. Short domains are good for developing other websites. Just not the .id.au as it's confusing.I used to own the .net and .org of my name and another .com variant. Paid the renewals for maybe 6 years.
At the end of the day though unless you have definite plans to use it is is probably just a big waste of money, and a few of these names can quickly add up in holding costs. As an example at the time I could have bought a lll.com for the amount of money spent renewing those three names ($200). Would have had something valuable instead of a $200 hole in the pocket.
