What's new

gTLD stuff

My point is that despite claims otherwise, probably 90% of the discussions here are related to domaining. To moan about people not involved in domaining not being involved in dntrade is plain silly. It's simple. But I know it's difficult for findtim and others to accept.

so get involved !

how about you throw some positives into your posts without making sure you always place a negative at the end.

as for me, i stand by everything i write and correct myself if proved wrong.

spacey makes a good point
This thread is about the new gtld's, why would it discuss things like .nz and .uk when they are cctld's ??

if you want to start a new thread then just go do it.

The Geo .gTLD's certainly open a can of worms. Stuff like .melbourne is great, but what happens when people want .brisbane / .sydney .hobart .act ? What's fair for one, should be fair for all.

Where is my .brisbane??? Why can .melbourne have one, and we can't?

E.g

.texas gTLD - is that for Texas, QLD, or Texas USA?

The policy isn't very clear on where all of this is headed.

i think first in best dressed, there is also melbourne in florida

.email ,is there any point or do you think one of the better?

I can't see how this better than someone's existing domain. Bit like .mobi, you don't need a whole lot of separate domains for functions that one domain can do.

In terms of resale the term is somewhat dated.

Snoopy I Like your point. this has been said by members many times before, but to my mind this all just makes premium names more premium?

I don't think new tlds are going to improve the value of other extensions. More choice isn't likely to be good for prices in my view even if very few go with the new choice.

What's the point findtim? Every time there is a discussion it's howled down. The discussion that happened here on second level registrations was so ill-informed. Other ccTLDs happily move to 2nd level registrations with debate over the model. But nobody here seems interested in looking at international experiences and seeing what can be learned. And because discussions here are so domainer-centric it's no wonder people from outside this circle don't want to get involved.

For example, on 2nd level registrations, nobody here seems to have the view that it's worked elsewhere, so why can't it in .au.

I think .photo is a much better sounding extension but launching later something very similar is a big negative.

The key thing in my view is that is a Uniregistry extension so I'd guess it is going to get half the volume or less than it might get if it had distribution through Godaddy and major registrars.
