Its interesting when you read the domains that expire and then ask, why did that person register that domain name? I guess, it was meaningful for that person 2 years ago, so why is it not today? Take for example BabyBoomerBoomerangBaby.com.au it was probably a good idea at the time...I think the domain name was to suggest...the baby boomers children are now adults 30+ return home because house prices or rents are not currently affordable; but what the hell were they going to sell?
On the surface there is no observable logic in why people register these strange domain names, its just an impulsive activity, but under the surface I know I have registered random domain names. In fact, its kind of therapeutic to sit on the lounge and mine for a new domain name, Ideas are free and a domain name that mirrors the idea is now cheap enough to waste a couple bucks on. But why? Why do domain names give us the feeling that a special right to the idea is granted? I have the domain name, now my idea is protected. So, did I defensively register this domain name before anyone else gets the same idea? LOL....defensive registrations are happening everyday. 2 years later when renewal arrives its a different story, damn that idea changed allot, now I have 5 or more new domains related to that original idea, and these ones are better.
The expired domain auctions have hundreds of domains that seemed like a good idea at the time, if analysed at the time of registration [2 years ago] and then searched as to why, you would find that newspapers at the time were spruking the impact of baby boomers going into retirement and the return of their kids back home. So what seemed like a random combination of words appears as a logical idea at the time which led to a domain registration. so behind all expiring domains is an underlining story, registrations are not random.
You can learn allot of new stuff from domains that "appear" to be strange like AMPTherapy.com.au I thought it was related to some type of electric shock therapy, so I googled it and found that it is an acronym for Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS). All these quirky words are actually meaningful in some way or another, not necessarily valuable as a domain name but logical at the time of registration.
Anyway, happy trading
