Drop prices

Prices are on the up - and certainly there seems to be a lot more players. Netfleet is continuing its dominance, but Drop do sneak the occasional one.

Competition is also quite fierce - even for names that would perhaps be considered mediocre.

I was well and truly outbid on 3 of the names I went for today.

However, there are still bargains to be had (imo) by bidding on both platforms. I put a $2 bid on NLPCourse.com.au on Drop because it was way over $100 on Netfleet (which was too rich for me to bid). It ended up at $196 on NF - and no one outbid me on Drop. Once again you have to wonder why people don't cover their "bet".

Thanks Drop. :)

You're all talk Paz! ;)

I was also bidding, but was a bit beyond my budget.

I picked up a domain the other day on drop for which I was well and truly outbid on NF for!

There must have been at least two buyers who were willing to pay more than what I ended up paying for it because I definitely wasn't the price setter on NF.

Surely it isn't that hard to throw a bid in on Drop.

Cant see why the drop registrations fees are still so high. if Ventraip can offer names for $19.95 cant we get some lower priced registration fees on the drops from netfleet and drop.com.au? How about Netfleet and Drop make their reg fees to be market competitive at $19.95?

I would presume they do this to get some more money out of you. It makes sense for them especially when it's a $2 drop etc.

No problems with them making a profit but charging twice as much as ventraip + making some huge money ( many thousands of dollars a day most days they get the names) quite often on the drops might leave them the option to lower the reg fee a bit?

Hi DomainNames,

To be fair VentraIP are not in the same market as Drop or Netfleet. I'm presuming their aggressive pricing policy is based on gaining market share and the upsell potential for their hosting products. If they were offering a drop service I think the comparison would be valid.

We do offer tiered discount registration pricing to our customers based on either a) number of domains they have registered with us and/or b) value of expired domain auction business in the last 6 months.

Feel free to contact me with your drop account details and I'll let you know whether you qualify.

Cheers

Andrew

I can attest to this. I have many domains with Drop, and my price for both drops and renewals is extremely competitive.

Combine this with a user friendly platform, fantastic service - and automated COR's, and you have a great package.

I like VentraIP for hosting (they're the best imo), and their domains are cheap - but at this stage they don't have the bells and whistles that Drop offers domainers.

Well I guess we'd need a third player in the market who was prepared to be 'competitive' I find it a little greedy too but then again before I found these two sites I didn't have any choice.

But I wish I had not been busy working and talking to a client on the phone and put in a bit on drop for telephone.net.au - it went for 22.00 grrr.. I need to set a calendar reminder that says - HANG UP ALL CALLS at about 12.50 so i can go back to these sites.. GRRR..

I guess the best solution is to only bid if you feel the domain is worth more than the reg fee charged by either Drop or NF.

If not don't bid you'll be able to pick it up later at your favourite discount registrar following the purge unless it's competitive in which case you'd be paying more than the reg fee anyway to win it.

And, as Andrew said I think Drop are the only pure registrar left in Australia - ie that doesn't have hosting as their main revenue source. NF isn't even a registrar so needs to pay at reseller rates and gets no benefit from renewals let alone hosting etc.

Oh and, Nina, it's nearly 12.50 so hang up!! :)
