Domains as an investment

Do you think there are any domains that can be considered a good investment? By investment I don't mean something speculative, but a domain (or series of domains) that can be expected to keep its value well, and has a reasonable chance of growth over time?
What are your thoughts?

Well google are getting into being a register so maybe another revenue stream or they know something we don't ?

Yes I'm sure they can make money out of it one way or another.

Not something that I've personally gravitated towards, but 2 and 3 letter .com domains would fit the bill. Liquidity is good and they've had consistent growth. You'll need a decent bankroll for 3 letters and a significant bankroll for 2 letters.

Well you might as well say NNNN's are worth jumping on going by their increase over the last year or so. But as suggested is it speculating so nothing is guaranteed, maybe next gen will go for the new gtld's or apps takeover ?
