Does the new Domain Deletion Policy benefit the public

Hi,

It seems to me that with the new deletion procedures nothing has changed much to benefit the general public. While the intentions of it were sound the implementation appears to not have changed how domains have dropped except by creating a 5 minute window of opportunity.

I noticed today that the domains dropped over a 5 minute period as opposed to simultaneously at 1:00 pm. The revised policy uses the phrase "exact time and date" on several occasions however this did not happen.

Looks to me that the only beneficiaries are the drop catching services having to dedicate less resources and time to their systems. Hopefully more registrars will get in the game. I wait with anticipation.

The main reason behind it was to stop the registry getting slammed all day and risking a loss in performance.

It doesn't help drop catchers at all. Setting a script to go at 10:30am is as easy as setting a script to go at 1pm.

The main benefit for domainers is the complete drop list being published - more choice...
