DNTrade Suggestion

I was thinking maybe it would be good to have an Auction section under the Marketplace -> Domains section like they have on DNF.com?

I have, for example, quite a few CC.com.au and CC.net.au domains coming up for renewal which I don't really want to renew but I don't really want to drop either. So I thought maybe if there was an Auction section where you could list at any starting price (ie $1 or $10 or whatever) forum members could pick up any domains they liked before they went to the drop catchers, and current owners could get a few bucks back rather than just letting them drop.

Ned and others what are your thoughts on this?

Pretty good idea! There is the Netfleet aftermarket auctions, but I think the $100 starting bid puts a lot of people off. If they set it up like the Snapper auction, I think they would get a lot more bids.

I'm glad you raised this. There has been some talk about a "going to let these drop - will take best offer" type thread, but what you have suggested (sub forum) sounds better.

Nothing worse than dropping something and seeing it go for a mid $XXX+

$1 starting point sounds good to me, although recouping reg fee would be nice.

Keen to hear from others..

I think it's a decent idea.

I let a couple of domains drop every year. None of them are worth putting on the AMA, but if a newbie picked them up for $10 or whatever it's probably not a bad result for them.

Had a few of those recently and I did put them through the AMA with no reserve but they got no bids then went for a few hundred on snapper!

I think the problem is people are more reluctant to spend $100 on a domain if they know that they then have to manually organise a COR with an unknown (and possibly naive - eg insists the COR done at Crazy Domains because it's free!) seller.

Once NF get their ass into gear and have a streamlined 1-click COR, I think names like these can power through the AMA.

Until then, and after actually, sounds great to have an option on Dntrade where at least you know you're likely to be dealing with a knowledgable professional.

Long way of saying +1!

It is indeed a good idea. :) As FPR says, we've been chatting about something similar for a while.

So we'll try and action something within the next few days.

Thanks all.

Ok - can we please have your thoughts on this format? Constructive suggestions / alterations / additions welcomed.

And can someone please suggest an appropriate name for sub-forum? We have thought of "Cheapie Auctions" or "$10 Domain Auctions". To put "dropping domains" would perhaps be confusing.

  • Listings run for 48 hours e.g. you list at 10am Monday; it closes 10am Wednesday. Please state time zone e.g. 10am Monday QLD or AEST.

  • Auction must run its course - no B.I.N. allowed.

  • Starting price $10 - thereafter in $2 increments.

  • Nothing to stop someone putting in a higher fixed bid during auction.

  • Domain must be sold - can't be withdrawn if there is a bid on it.

  • If there are two identical bids at the close of auction, then winner will be judged on priority of post. e.g. two people could put in identical bids of $15 at one minute before deadline -
therefore winner would be person whose post appears first.

  • If a higher bid is received after auction closing time - even by one minute; this bid will not be allowed. If there are no bids, then seller can elect to take late offer at their discretion.

  • COR fee to be paid by purchaser, and amount will be included on invoice. (That way seller controls process). Buyer and seller to cooperate with regards registrar, but it would seem logical
to do it through Drop at $29.95 - or Ventra at $19.95.

  • If seller is registered for GST, then GST will be added to invoice.

  • DNT is only providing the platform, and is not responsible in any way for the sale or purchase.

  • Normal market place rules apply - however we will allow one "bump" within the 48 hours. :)

  • Maximum of three individual listings per day per member - though nothing to stop a multiple listing. e.g. list two or more domains in the one listing and hope that the price gets above $10!

This would be a typical sample single listing:

Domain: hotdeals.com.au

Auction expires: 9am on Wednesday 16 May 2012.

Registrar: Drop.com.au

Comments: (if any)

-------------

This would be a typical sample response:

$10

It all looks good to me Ned.

I like the idea of a set template for all listings, especially since such limited information is required anyway.

'$10 Domain Auctions' sounds good.

:)

I completely agree with this because I noticed that similar domain names are selling at AMA for a lot less than what they would go for in Snapper auction.

Once NF get their ass into gear and have a streamlined 1-click COR, I think names like these can power through the AMA.

If this is be possible and Netfleet can controls the COR processes as well then merging the Snapper and Aftermarket auctions into one auction platform could also be possible so that the domain name sales value doesn't get affected by the different auction platforms. I know there maybe some legal issues involved in this but it will be the ultimate auction platform for the domainers. :)

Yeah - one daily auction with a mixture of aftermarket and drops with the security for the buyer that all domains will sell (have reached reserve) and will be instantly transferred/registered. Nice vision.
