Hello CQ

'really good domains' can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people
also .au uncertainty due to auda transition needs to be considered in any case

In my view you are best off looking at .com drops and .com aftermarket. Forget about .com.au, it is going to be a bad market for years with .au uncertainty.

Overall though the best deals are to be had be contacting the registrants, this takes a lot of time and research though.

but I have been doing some reading and the .com domains are really expensive, I usually buy for clients, some of who are small businesses so they wont spend big $$

Plenty of sellable names on drop auctions for $100-$300. There is reason prices are "expensive" relative to .com.au.

I usually buy for clients
myself also. i've found you just have to present what is available as a "hand reg" and whats available through owners and let them decide.

an owner may not be a "domainer" they could be just someone who had an idea and has never gone through with it ! MANY of my clients own heaps of spec domains they want to dev but often find that 1 TAKES off and soaks up their time so the others just sit there, i'm sure its the case for many people.

its "sales 101" , always knock EVERY door. just ask, as chris said the worst thing is they say no.

I recommend gTLDs

There is .sydney and .melbourne for cities if they want city cachet

There are plenty of other gTLDs on the market if they want industry cachet internationally
.marketing, .agency, .domains, .photography etc

however acronyms and keywords have premium renewals

.com is garbage tho

it's why all ccTLDs drop it
and probably why they're dropping in the first place

Blah blah blah. I don't think too many cctlds have dropped ".com" lately.

Doesn't make any sense either that valuable domains would drop because they are "garbage". If that was true they wouldn't sell.

Congratulations, you are on the only person on earth other than Ausregistry recommending .melbourne and .sydney.

You know .com is a gtld, yes?

yada yada yada. I do think not enough cctlds have dropped .com yet

One registrants garbage is another domainers fertiliser?

Can't agree with you on this Rhythm. But each to their own.

.melbourne and .sydney reminds me of the Green Day song:

"The Boulevard of Broken Dreams"

"I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's only me, and I walk alone

I walk this empty street

On the boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one, and I walk alone"

31 apparently...

...and when I repeated the search with the omitted results included, it was only 16 pages deep with 154 results and many multiple entries for the same web sites.
