i hate it when you go through the submitting process and then you discover they require reciprocal ......... quite often a big time waster to the point like many here , i just don't bother

Good point. Most of the ones listed in this thread are either non active or closed.

ComeOnAussie.com is a pretty good one, it's for Australian sites only.

With a site this this, wouldn't this be as easy way for Google to fine sites with non genuine links just by crawling site like that?

Is this kind of thing really a good way of building links? and if it still is how long is it going to be be before being listed on a site like that turns into a penalty?

I have a link directory which operates under reciprocal links. Even with that in place, I still waste plenty of time deleting irrelevant submissions. I expect it would be quite painful to manage a free link directory.
