Ausregistry WHOIS Captcha

So was checking the whois of a domain for the nth time today when it turned out I had to enter not 2 or 3 but 4 characters before my previous entries didn't pop up as an auto-fill suggestion.

As you can have numbers as well as letters that gives 36 options each character meaning matching two random 3-character strings is a 1 in 46,656 chance.

Moral of the story - I use whois too much :)

lol, the definition of stupidity is putting captcha onto an optometrist website !

i have a few and the optoms want it there to prevent spam, i pity the half blind person wanting to just contact them.

You can use terminal and skip that by simply whois domainname.com.au

absolutely I couldn't work without Terminal. Also there is a really cool iPhone App called FreeWhois, a fantastic app that lets you do a whois check without captcha. The only catch with Terminal and the App is that they dont display the registrant email address, that's not a problem 99% of the time
