.au domain charges for names you do not own?

Hi all,

I applied to get a .au domain a while ago, it looks like both .com.au and .net.au also applied for the same name.

As both parties applied, it seems like we both have to pay for this domain annually, and neither one actually gets the domain.

Anyone seen something like this in your account?

Is it a case of both parties keep paying until one stops and then the other gets the domain, How does this work??

Yep, spot on. auDA charge all parties who have contested the domain name an annual fee. Until one party either doesn't renew or they withdraw their application, it will remain contested.
