Recently I purchased a deal on Scoopon, a few work mates also purchased the deal.
I have used a few other deal websites in the past and never had a problem, I know how the system works, purchase the deal and then print out the coupon and go and redeem. Well I thought this was the case until I used "Scoopon".
Now in this instance to claim the deal you had to go to an external site not linked to Scoopon, but of a random .com.au domain, further to this you had to put your credit card details to sign up to a long term plan, but the website states cancel after a the trial period "you pay for".
Now the funny thing is this was not mentioned on the Scoopon deal page at all, I did some background checks on who owns the domain, and their are close to 20 domains similar to this guy has with credit card information, so I am not safe with providing a random my credit card information linked to a business where he has 10 similar domains.
So we decide we will get a credit from Scoopon, not a re fund a credit on another deal, as we never even used the deal.
So 2 work buddies email Scoopon and say they do not want to enter their credit card information onto a 3rd party site, as this is now what was advertised ect ect, after 2-3 emails they are credited to their account with out a problem.
Now I do exactly the same thing send Scoopon with the same line/ same email, they said they do not offer credits or refunds as per line 7.3 on their T's and C's, funny? So now I send them the exact email thread from my work mate who emailed them with a different customer service person an exact copy of the thread =) Now they never reply.
So I tweet them twice on Twitter thinking ok they will probably have people who will reply to some one with like 4k followers, and since then they have never replied.
I mean this isn't a lot of money, but really its just about principal if you give some customers one thing then others another its a bit unfair, also I feel this deal offered was very suspicious.
It is pretty obvious I wont be using Scoopon any more, and I would advise others to look out for these similar styles of suspicious deals.
