In fact you don't even need to be a member to stand for election you just need to be nominated and seconded by members of the class you are standing for.
Erhan first stood as demand class, didn't succeed and then stood for supply.

Obviously George has ties to Ausregistry however he is one of few people on the board who has valuable experience of the domain name industry so if he didn't stand it would be another loss of knowledge to auDA.

George is not the only person capable and qualified for such a role there are many others BUT I agree 100% real domain name experience is key this time or we will continue to see the growing list auDA issues expand.
Wholesale Registry contract suppliers ( or their staff aking as "proxy") should not be on the auDA board or it can sway policy decisions and it raises serious issues about conflicts of interest.
The Wholesale Registry provider ( George at the moment) of course already have a requirement to provide their updates and reports to auDA etc. There is no need for them to actually be on the auDA Board.
My personal opinion and gut feeling is the Wholesale registry provider contractor ( and representatives) would do all they can to maintain control of the very profitable wholesale registry cash cow. This could / does already cause a conflict of interest for the auDA board if they where to remain on it.

- Why doesn't auDA allow every domain name registrant to be a member a no cost, to have the right to vote for Directors and the right to a say?
- Why does auDA allow membership stacking which can and has influenced policy, pricing, tender processes, directors etc?
- FREE membership and equal voting rights for every .ca domain name registrant. 1 vote only domain name registrant ( Also limited not multiple votes how many domains you have etc)

a. the annual membership fee or entrance fee, where applicable, of that Member remains unpaid for one (1) month after it becomes payable; and
b. a notice of default is given to the Member;
but, subject to clause 13.2, those rights and privileges shall be reinstated on payment of all arrears.
