WordPress Gutenberg Resources

A substantial change is just round the corner, the Gutenberg project is replacing the current WYSIWYG editor and introducing the concept of "blocks".

It's caused a lot of controversy in the WordPress community, but it's coming so something most of us will be dealing with on our own, and client sites. I thought I'd start a thread with resources, related plugins, experiences, good or bad etc.

You can already test Gutenberg out as a plugin:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/gutenberg/

Or you can test a live demo:

Here's a list of plugin compatibility (a lot unknown, but popular plugins are listed):

I'll add more as I come across them! :)

Yes, I decided to bite the bullet to get used to it on a real world project, no major issues. That said, we're still holding off too for all other sites.

Yesterday, the ACF team posted a good piece about their take on things, as well as their roadmap:

The big event is finally within sight: WordPress 5.0, featuring the new Gutenberg editor, is coming soon. And all of the emotions leading up to this release are quite unlike anything we’ve seen in the world of WordPress.

Feelings are all over the spectrum, from those who are absolutely giddy with excitement to those who dread the thought of the new content editing experience. But perhaps the biggest majority of WordPress developers are simply cautious and concerned – and for good reason. Gutenberg has been controversial from the start and with the recent influx of mixed reviews, most of us are unsure if our websites will continue to work as they previously did.

At the time of writing, the active installations for Gutenberg is at 100,000+

Thanks Chris, keen to hear your views over the next few weeks. We have suggested our clients wait, otherwise we will get hit with support calls!

I'd be interested to hear if anyone is having issues too.

And anyone had problems with clients "experimenting" with their sites and causing problems?
