The direct registration option will lose website and email traffic to the corresponding .com and .com.au domains. That doesn't sound great to me.

The level of actual usage will be low just like all the other new tlds.
With auDA’s confusing choices more will choose “none of the above” and go with .com instead.

Heard a bit of chatter about Neustar doing billboard advertising in Australia for .co (to punish auDA?)

Interesting though I would be surprised if it is really worth the spend. I do wonder though if one day Verisign is going to come in with tv/print/billboard advertising for .com as that could really set the cat amongst the pigeons.

I also made reference to this in The Domains blogpost about .co's being held back by the registry (stupid) The one I spotted was in Collingwood.

Hilarious thread about this on NP also, we they call out the cctld of Colombia for having low ethics, stating the public expect this to be run to high moral standards and not run like some shabby new tld!

Owning toys.com isn't going to to make any difference to a big brand like that. They wasted their money buying the name.
Toyrsus.com.au bankrupt aswell, the Australian business was unsellable like all the other others.
It did make a substantial difference... towards bankruptcy.
It's great that you can see that they wasted millions overpaying for a .com
