Get over it Jim you are on a chat platform and I’m not here to big note myself or advertise my business so there’s no need to tell you who I am. As you can see from the screen names people are using most here are thinking along the same lines although I appreciate that many do know one another. With names like Snoopy, Lemon and Bacon Farmer I’m sure you get the gist of what I’m saying. I’ve been on here for many years as much as you seem to think I’ve come on now just to troll you. I seem to have hit a sour note with you by mentioning that I’ve never heard of you before. I’m sure I’m not the only person in Australia and indeed none of my friends, family or business associates have heard of you either. I have to say that this has not been a great introduction to you or your business. First impressions are everything they say.

We haven't been introduced. There are plenty of people with vested interests arguing the merits of this proposal from behind anonymous accounts. Your opinion on the matter means little as you have not identified yourself. I have no idea what experience you have to make sweeping statements about what Cameron Boardman said on national TV. Do you work for AUDA? What financial interests do you have in .au being implemented? Please introduce yourself if you wish to be taken seriously.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion Jim and especially if you are an Australian domain name holder during this period which I am. As a professional person in this industry I would think that you would be better suited to come onto this forum and promote yourself rather than try to belittle other members because you feel that you are better placed to comment on this proposal. Perhaps you have been on the back foot following the spray that you received at the PRP meeting and the discussion about whether you are a top SEO and you feel that you need to assert some sort of authority here or defend yourself but perhaps you would be better suited to ignore the noise and remain professional in your discussions. You are fighting shadows here and not trolls.

i tend to agree.
a few years ago we had a discussion on dnt about usernames and anonymity, i chose not to use one, findtim isn't really a good cloak LOL
, as does jim, ned, chris, scott, james, andrew, simon, etc etc but some do, and that's what a forum is.
dnt has had its trolls and we have removed them, presently i think it just has very opinionated members because of the subjects we are discussing.

And again for the record I am against direct registrations and as much as I can see what Cameron is talking about in his interview I don’t see it as a justification for introducing direct registrations. I agree with Jim that perhaps it is a justification to promote the current domain name options rather than introduce new ones and confuse the issue even further.

In any case I have no knowledge of your expertise when you make these comments. That is all I am pointing out. I would add you've answered more of my questions than auDA has.
Jim I'll be sure to let everyone know that you are the guru and the rest of us pawns are not qualified to comment on direct registrations, social media trends, ABC interviews or indeed anything at all because you don't know who we are even though we are the majority of the population. Why would the AUDA bother contacting us to comment on direct registrations if the guru doesn't believe we are qualified to answer.

It's a shame you and Jim are having a bit of a barney - particularly as you have both stated that you're against direct registration.
I respect your right to anonymity on public forums. Jim has always been a "I'm prepared to put my name to it" sort of guy. Neither of you are wrong - it is a personal choice.
Having run DNT previously - and Domainer now - I know loads of people who prefer to use a pseudonym for a whole variety of reasons. One that is often stated is fear of potential retribution from "on high". I'd like to think that wouldn't happen in this day and age, but who knows ...

I've read back over posts and realise I was harsh and rude. After the PRP forums and how I was treated there to room full of strangers I was stunned. Since then I have come out swinging, so @Horshack unreserved apology. Like many of you I was involved in the early discussions pre auda and I have a passion for the net. I hate seeing people tinker with it without a good reason. I'm honestly shocked that asking for a business case was such an unreasonable position to take.

I honestly thought I'd be pointed to quantitive studies and be promptly told to shut up. I got the latter and not the former and here we are. I'm used to DNS folk having data coming out their wazoo.

I read Robert Kaay's post about the PRP forum in Perth and I thought he must have had it wrong. So I went along to the Melbourne one. I couldn't really afford the time. The room was told more than once by the chair my fist video was "misleading & incorrect" I asked for clarification none was given. I said more than once I wanted to understand to tell my clients & viewers. They would not explain.
The Chair tried to obstruct me taking photos of the slides and laughed to the room as he did so. A CEO of a registrar told the room I was as "stupid as I looked" On 3 occasions the chair stated he didn't understand how .au could hurt business. I tried to answer on each occasion but was shouted down.
The most disturbing thing for me though was this. When I explained to the room they were already devaluing .com.au, the Chair of the Panel and two registrars in the room stated there had been no decrease in .com.au sales. I told them that was because no one knew what they were doing. They readily agreed. People buying .com.au today aren't being told a competing domain will be released and they will not be eligible for it.

I found the same arguments occurred in Brisbane but without the bitchy personal attacks. There's a lot of frustration out there.
John and the panel spent at least half the time arguing the merits of direct registrations or counter arguments. Even the ACCC guy got into it.
They weren't there to listen they were there to argue the pro's of direct registrations. And of course the only reason people were there was for the last session, which was conveniently placed at the end to limit time spent on the discussion.

In my opinion this is coming from Cameron pushing for it to go ahead no matter what, pretty clear that they are under pressure to come up with "how".
