Government Slammed in Parliament over .AU proposal

At the Melbourne public meeting I recall Paul from the ACCC saying that he reached out to the bodies who declined to be involved for one of two reasons 1) Not interested/too much time 2) Concerns over confidentiality requirements for panelists.

Is the panel fatally flawed because of it?

Wow Paul from the ACCC was in charge of getting the position filled.

I think we found our problem.

Maybe the Chair should step in or face the accusation of being non representative.

Seriously the biggest number of stakeholders are not being represented because they haven't tried hard enough?

Pretty poor effort.

"In addition to the public consultations by the Panel, auDA’s Board also commissioned independent market research, which showed 60% of respondents were likely or highly likely to register “yourname.au” if it was available."

If it was available.

Bias much?

Do you seriously want me to cut and paste Luke Summers, John Swinson, the ACCC and ACCANs submissions?.

Yes Anthony please do for the record.

Include all the auDA Board members Erhan's, Tim Connell, Nicole Murdoch's earlier public statements and posts against it and why also.

Hang on... Did anyone see what Accan.org.au said about that false claim...? They said it was Bullsh&^ and they backed it up with evidence why.

Do you seriously want me to cut and paste Luke Summers, John Swinson, the ACCC and ACCANs submissions? I thought it was clear, lt was even stated at the start of the presentation that they all made submissions against it. Did you miss the start?

If it is rigged, then it is rigged against direct registration so why are you shouting about it? You should be happy? Why throw stones?

If that is true (and for all I know it could be) then why all the shouting... just leave it up to the government.
In the mean time I am going to assume that it is business as usual and make a submission before the 4th.

Do you have a recording and notes what was said by the auDA PRP about any names bought on the drop auctions after 18 April 2016?

How about you come clean and tell everyone on your website and here what the PRP said and how it already does impact consumers who are bidding who have not been told they will not even be eligible for the .au if it is already held by another extension etc.

Have people bidding on the drop auctions since that date been told of the risk to their investment? Should they be told now that drop catchers have bee told what has been proposed? Does even the talk hurt the people's investment?

Nikki at Netfleet said at the Sydney auDA PRP meeting this will hurt her business at www.netfleet.com.au.

Why are you seemingly so quiet now on that and what earlier protested about your BLACKOUT WEEK PROTEST and then sold out due to this very issue also as some reason?..It's maybe not hurting you as much if you no longer own Domain Shield and you can still get an employee income ?

How about the damage others have experienced? You seemingly do not care as much now and are now seeimgly for the thing you protested against and why?

Due to a lack of confidence in the future of .au domains I have decided to suspend my drop catching service (as well as new .au domain registrations) until there is more clarity on the future of the .au domains.

The secondary market has been significantly destabilised by the announcement and then subsequent delays in the implementation of direct registrations by auDA.

In recent discussions with auDA I am even more unsure of the future as it seems to me that the Registry Transformation Project and the Policy Review Project are not correctly aligned. Based on my experience as a project manager this will result in either further delays, increased costs or decreased quality.

This protest starts 1 September 2017 and will run until at least until 7 September 2017 when the suspension will be reviewed again.

Please note that we will still operate as an auDA accredited registrar during this period and registrants can still renew and manage their existing domains as per normal.

I do not undertake this protest lightly as I am a small business owner and operator. I literally feed and dress my children on the income from this business."

One loudmouth does not a general public make

Did you attend the Melbourne PRP meeting and hear someone from a Supply Registrar very loudly shout out "you are as stupid as you look" to another auDA Member who just happens to be one of Australia's most respected SEO experts?

Maybe this is why auDA is too fearful to release the auDA PRP Public meeting audio.. plus the other questionable claims and statements said by some PRP members .

'I think the SEO Expert started in the domain name and digital media industry when that 'loudmouth' was about 5 years old....

No. It would only be flawed if auDA or the panel had deliberately excluded them from the conversation. If they have an option but chose not to take it that does not break the consultation process.

He was not in charge of it, but he did reach out to people he knew and asked them to get involved. Technically auDA was in charge of making the position available and then publishing its availability. Beyond that no one has to get the position filled.

I don't have time to do that so unless you have evidence to refute what I stated then you are wasting my time.

I am guessing you are talking rubbish. They may have offered their alternative opinion but no one has formally provided evidence proving the opposite. If there was evidence then the board would be looking at that and this ball would not be rolling.

No I don't.

Like I said on the other thread, and like I said on the phone. Nothing is decided, they have only just provided us with some ideas and discussion points which might result in a recommendation which might get accepted by the board which might get implemented in a few years time. There are so many mights, ifs, buts and discussion points that I would need a four hour long video to explain it to them.
What I do know is that the domain they buy from me comes with a license for two years and an option to renew it which will not be taken away from them. .It is my opinion that .com.au will still be valuable for the next decade at least. Further to that I have never promised them the rights to another extension so I don't need to tell them now that there is a remote chance they might not get an extra, potentially more valuable and easier to sell domain for $20.
Have people bidding on the drop auctions since that date been told of the risk to their investment? Should they be told now that drop catchers have bee told what has been proposed? Does even the talk hurt the people's investment?
The talking and the delays is very likely hurting their investments in the short term. In my opinion your crazy talk here is far more likely to damage their investment than the introduction of .au which is actually going to help them in the long run.
Nikki at Netfleet said at the Sydney auDA PRP meeting this will hurt her business at www.netfleet.com.au.
I was not there and I cannot talk on behalf of a competitors manager or even verify what she said 1000km away. There is a short term detriment to drop catching and the aftermarket. I still believe there is a much greater good which comes from this and I am willing to sacrifice my short term gain for a better result.

For the reference my protest was not against the introduction of direct registration, it was the delays in getting this discussion underway and having to wait until Aug 2018 to get their recommendations
I have also been busy working... Afilias released their sandbox for us on the 28th so we have to start planning, developing and testing for the new environment. I have also been working on our public submission. This weekend has been a write off as my cat also got hit by a car and has a broken leg so I am trying to get him fixed up.

How about the damage others have experienced? You seemingly do not care as much now and are now seeimgly for the thing you protested against and why?
Which thread did I miss which shows how anyone has experienced damage beyond wasting their time and reputations pretending to talk for small businesses? I am sorry if you ever thought I was against direct registrations. If you re-read the quote you posted there you will see that I was only ever against the delay between the 2015 announcement and the commencement of this discussion.

I am of the opinion that the quicker we can get this done and dusted the sooner we can get back to selling domains.

In fact I think the worst possible outcome is for the current panel to recommend not proceeding or the panel to make a recommendation which the board then tries to block. That would push this out to the next names panel and a new board to look at, which will leave our market even more uncertain that ever before. That is probably something I would consider putting a warning about on our website.
