Joe Public thinks .Com is an excellent alternative to .Com.Au

Lol reminds of "winston with a y". They spend a tonne of radio advertising.
I think the older folk do relate to that one (english heritage) and the mis-spell seems to be the "reminder" of the brand, but for me the word dash just kills a Url

I love Mark Newton's humour in domain names - his website is slash.dotat.org and his mail domain is atdot.dotat.org ... he used to use the email name "dotty" ... dotty at atdot dot dotat dot org

I used to own dotio.io, but I let it lapse because I didn't really have a valid reason to keep it, and .io domains are too expensive to hold for vanity purposes!!

We met a guy who has Dot Melbourne .Melbourne

These are just pointless names, another extension that people don't even know about (despite all the money spent trying to promote it) and keywords no sense to anyone other than domainers.

.io domains are great for online services - plenty of SaaS companies use .io ... but I wouldn't use them for any other type of business, especially not one with an exclusive Australian focus where .com.au is a much better choice.

You would be much better off having a .net.au over a .io if dealing locally, I understand the "input/output" aspect but wonder how many sales are domainer to domainer?

I don't think it has much appeal to anyone, unless the business revolves around raising money from Silicon Valley VC's.

Actually I think it's largely the opposite - because of the higher holding costs, I don't see a huge rush to register heaps of .io domains for speculative purposes.

This is another reason why it's quite popular with SaaS businesses - because it's relatively expensive and thus not as widely held by domainers, there's a lot more choice in available names.

I think any domainers holding a large portfolio of .io domains for speculative purposes is rather foolish given the cash required to hold them.

I see domainers regularly buying and selling this extension around the traps. A search for .io names at flippa shows 3757 results

... and 1,329,843 .com domains, 105,693 .net domains, even 27,314 .info domains (I mean seriously - who buys .info domains?) listed on Flippa.

I stand by my comments ... there's not that much demand for .io domains and certainly not much hype.
