Yep, I agree, rereading the statement it's there in black and white:If you read the press release exactly as it is written it gets a lot clearer
"so auDA can build and operate a dedicated .au registry"

I have to confess that I misread / misinterpreted auDA's statement yesterday. My apologies. There were two things that made me do so:It would be great to see a public statement from auDA to clarify the direction that's being taken.
I don't think apologies are necessary. I think many of us missed the key details in the nuanced wording.I have to confess that I misread / misinterpreted auDA's statement yesterday. My apologies.
Indeed!Interesting times ahead.
Mr Wordsmith! Offer your services to auDA now. Some clearer statements would have been helpful, such as:
'the registry system for the .au name space will no longer be operated by a third party. The registry will be operated directly by auDA, following the conclusion of the existing registry contract. We will be undertaking a restricted tender process to select a suitable provider with the expertise to build the new registry system.'
Scott sorry but SINGAPORE IS! And this would be a possible model to look at. As their relevent department is much like our own https://www.communications.gov.au/what-we-do/internetyeah, "part" not "full" - ccTLD's are not statutory creatures. But, Gov has an active role at a distance, as it should be.
100% we do not want to see auDA just become Ausregistry / Melbourne IT etc. Things will go backwards. Their mindset is just profit profit profit.
Just a few thoughts,
- I can imagine a lot of Ausregistry employees ending up at AUDA

5.5 Transfer of Domain Name Registration
I think if AuGov had a model like .sg people would be frothing from the mouth. Good bye drop and netfleet and Domainshield and the freedom to trade freely, goodbye to your domain portfolio mate.
Registrants do not have the right to sell or transfer .sg domains to any party for profit. "YAY, lets do it"
.
I am not sure but did auDA cut advertising sponsorship with Mr Goldstein's blog Goldstein Report.. . How much did auDA pay over the years I wonder? There was some announcement it was cut last year.
From memory Mr Goldstein at the auDA 2016 Annual General Meeting was pushing that people such as him with an .ID.AU should also have equal rights to the proposed competing additional .au extension. Now that would be even more chaos...

You are joking right? .id.au owners get equal rights to .au? That is laughable. There are many id.au names registered which should be policy deleted as they do not meet policy.I agree with Mr Goldstein.
.id.au domain names have been available to register for something like 27 years. People registered them and should be allowed the equivalent direct .au in the name of "choice".
I just wrote a new blog about this over at my new domain news (for end-users) website, DomainFriday.com.au
Are you sure id.au started 27 years ago and What are the current registered stats? 99.9999% of people know it is rubbish except the few thousand that fell for it.
https://www.ausregistry.com.au/what-is-id-au/ " To be among the first to register an id.au domain name simply click here to get your own id.au" ... after 27 years people will be among the first now in 2017?
