I use a combination of local storage, Google Drive and AWS. At one point I had a separate VPS for some backups and I switched it to AWS and saved around $600 a year.

I use IWP to backup DB's to AWS, costs like $1.50/m
I use UpdraftPlus to backup to Dropbox
I have been testing WP Time Capsule to Google Drive lately.

I paid for the 1TB Dropbox account. Saves the headache of multiple accounts.

I've just been researching some good local backup options after losing yet another system drive the other day.

GoodSync has been awesome so far. I have used Acronis in the past to ghost my sys drive but this one caught be out being lazy. I need a solution that can mirror my sys drive without me having to unplug it all the time to stop boot conflicts.

Considering Acronis Cloud.

do you see a problem with it potentially backing up hacked files? with it overwriting rather then storing past copies?
tim
There's always the risk of backing up hacked files no matter what you use. I like to think I have enough systems in place to stop the hacks anyway.
WP Time Capsule keeps a daily backup of changed files and you can restore back to any day in the last 30 days. So you'd need to back up hacked files for 30 days straight to not have any clean files. My alerts in place are good enough to let me know faster than 30 days.

Here is another one you may want to look at Jono, https://www.pcloud.com/ its got some advanced features, and more storage up to 2TB, works out to be about a $1 month cheaper than the dropbox pro account. The free account allows up to 10gb with options to get free extra quotas. Also has the ability to backup some of your other cloud services like Facebook, Instagram, Picassa, with versioning control and encryption, it even has an option for backing up Wordpress. https://www.pcloud.com/features/integrations.html

aws: how much space is $1.50p/m getting you?
tim
Not sure exactly.
It's a pay per GB setup, I don't think I use much space there at all. I used to send my full site backups there but now send these to Dropbox & Google Drive.

Apparently Crashplan doesn't do Syncronisation. Found this great review site. https://www.cloudwards.net/comparison/ (note they use affiliate links).

But for WordPress websites, WPMUDEV have just released a brand new range of backup plans, that make it a lot cheaper than most, for large sites, and Multisite sites, their snapshot backup plugin is also very quick and easy to use. https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/introducing-backup-storage-plans/ comparing it to Backup Buddy and Sync from Ithemes. I like it better.

which one?
Think its this one, I've been keeping an eye on for some time. https://www.goodsync.com/ they are the same company that owns Roboform.

A lot of the cloud backup providers don't sync with NAS but only with DAS, I have been researching building my own NAS out of an old PC,
Here are some useful articles I'm using as part of my research.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/241978/how_to_build_your_own_network_attached_storage_system.html https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/02/the-ins-and-outs-of-planning-and-building-your-own-home-nas/ https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/Lc48TW/freenas-box-2016 https://blog.brianmoses.net/2016/02/diy-nas-2016-edition.html and this cool DAS which is very promising, for expansion and syncing from the old PC build.
http://www.terra-master.com/html/en/article_read_1173.html

How I think I can do this, is use an old pc, build it with FreeNas, use the Terra Master for expansion. And then using an unlimited cloud service to just sync with that one pc. Then internally at home, I can sync via the network to that Nas, backups from other computers. That's the idea.
I have a tone of old HDD's that I can use to start with, plus several older machines, I can rebuild. so certainly can be a cheap alternative to something like Synology or Qnap Nas.
