Would You Buy A Domain On Flippa?

After seeing that Rythmn's recent success selling an AU domain on Flippa (sold healthinsurance.net.au for $3800) I had a look as saw that in the last 30 days there have actually been a few AU domains auctioned off on Flippa:

HealthInsurance.net.au - USD$3067
Seed.com.au - USD$2001
Public-Liability-Insurance.com.au - USD$900
Twobirds.com.au - USD$200
Disappear.com.au - USD$31

It got me wondering if other people here would be willing to buy a domain on Flippa?

Does anyone here currently keep an eye on Flippa domain auctions and actively bids?

Or are there any reasons why people don't like bidding/buying domains on Flippa?

I am following only .com.au domains/sites
Sometimes for other sites I have a feeling that most bids are fake
I also don't like the idea of extending the auction every single time when someone bids

I've never listed a domain on Flippa before, but does the person auctioning the domain get to set the extension period? Ie Can they set it to only 1 minute extensions? So it isn't so annoying.

Busy so some short thoughts.
- Domain Verification is a hassle (manual) due to captcha required for email verification.
- Two recent .au domain auctions (mine and another) had about 40+ bids which I thought was healthy.
- Bidding in USD - no AUD option (I think so)
- Auction extension sucks.

There's no option to change this period, but having sold a few sites on Flippa now I really like the one hour extension. Half an hour may be a little more appropriate, but since Flippa have a vested interest in getting the best price for sellers, I'm sure they've done their best to set a time which maximises the winning bid.

Good question, I think you can only set the actual auction length which in my eyes should go for as long as possible (one month) .... as for upgrades, I think you should promote other ways, social media, possible end users .... low reserves

What's a dot NET AU worth?

4% - 6% of of the dot COM AU?

Would healthinsurance.COM.AU sell for more than $250,000 at auction on NetFleet? Maybe, but probably not.

Would healthinsurance.COM.AU potentially sell for less than $50,000 on NetFleet? Maybe, but probably not.

So whilst I agree that you wouldn't call it a "spectacular success", and a fairer auction value for healthinsurance.net.au might have been $5,000 to $12,000, but to even see a domain sell on another auction platform other than NetFleet for $X,XXX is a "success" in my book.

Every new bidder needs to be approved by the seller, so it is good news for me that end of auctions get extended, allowing time to decide to approve or not.
I have 2 domains on auction with a zero reserve. Risky business! The editor chose to put it one of those 2 domains in the editors choice. That domain is in the list of most bids.
I will not link my auctions in this thread because they are both .com domain names

From what I can see .com.au domains are lost on Flippa without having it as a choice under domain extensions. I'm curious if anyone else here has noticed that the search results on SEDO are all over the show recently instead of listing the availability of the main extensions at the top like before. The search results seem to be every term except for the one being searched.

I do agree that Flippa's search functionality could be improved...

They could definitely use a few more filters.

Chris, I completely disagree with your post. This is on the basis of:
1. Selling domains in the health insurance space for 5-figures
2. Having a portfolio of our own in health insurance;
3. Discussed valuations with all of the major health insurance companies;
Of course, it depends on what you define as success.

In my opinion net.au EMDs are dead. You get next to no benefit from an SEO perspective, and unlike a com.au EMD you'd be mad to build a brand around the domain.
I thought this one would sell for a little more, but post-2012 it is not a 5-figure domain.

I offered the local guitar shop "ElectricGuitars/Net/Au" for free as it is dropping soon, I explained a Cor fee would be charged by the registrar ...... haven't heard back, meanwhile I am hearing many .Melbourne ads on the radio lately ....ummm

That's exactly what I tried to do. I offered to broker the name to my contacts. The seller couldn't cancel the auction and with only a few hours left (late on a Fri afternoon from memory) he made the decision to sell it. That's life.
