Thoughts ?

Cheers Liquid

"dead in the water" , I personally know the area, know the business, know who's involved and you will get taken DOWN if you develop it, to sell it will just raise FLAGS, I'm not really sure what you should do? think outside the square but if I owned it I would be scared to hit the big guns like the council.

because of my position in business on the subject I'm hesitant to make more comment as we have been down this path before.

get rid of it if you can, letting it drop might actually make you money by not spending the effort on it.

HEY, thats what you are here for :)

i'd just be careful of this domain IMO

sounds great and i haven't done any research but you might find trademarks on it??????

its a lose term i agree, just think you need to do some more research before you go phoning someone to sell it IMO to protect yourself.

its either going to go well or pear shaped.

as for appraisal i think you now know i don't have one for you.

sorry if i broke any dnt rules but this one just SPARKED up at me so mayeb we will see some deleted post which is cool.

STORY--------------------------------------

potentially together only, I remember it from when I lived in brissie back in 1999

just do more research, ipaustralia, asic, and see whats around already.

having said ALL that, for an appraisal I think it has little value.

flood, draught, flood, draught.................. where is the target market? even if you get rankings you will confuse the consumer into thinking you are something you are not.

PERFECT example:
HTML:
 eway.com.au 1800 10 65 65
, great company and I use them but when you phone they have on their "click ONE for bla bla, click TWO for bla bla......" a diversion to the Melbourne toll roads !!!!!

"eastlink = eway " naaaa , " eastlink = breeze " so anyway it was a REAL hassle for them and I was talking to the owner of Eway at a conference last year and he said it was a real problem for them as people were ringing in wanting to get car tags only to find out they were an ecom payment gateway and had nothing to do with tolls.

it was chewing up resources ++++++++ creating negative feedback because of people being on hold, which I can fully understand, I think they have really solved it now as I chatted with them a few weeks ago.

SOOO, the moral of the story is the problem with bris water is CONFUSION.

thats all i found on IP Australia

I see its not like a company could use it for bottled water is that what you're pointing at ?

Too close to what SEQ Water does IMO.

Unless you were bottling Brisbane water, I would keep the 10 foot pole handy

What did I miss?

at this point in time i'm just going to let it drop

Maybe I missed something, but why just drop it? There doesn't appear to be any trademark registered or pending (I got the same results as you) and I doubt there ever could be for such a generic term.

There is a business registered under that name, but, provided you can show you fulfil the eligibility requirements (that bottled water supply business you were going to start in Brisbane, right?) then you have as much right to hold the domain name as they do.

Happy to discuss this further if you want to PM me.

I was just going along with what everyone else said and staying on the cautious side. Would be nice if i could hold on to it.

If you have some way of making something of it, power to you. Just not sure how you could monetise it or flip it. But anyone with an imagination could do something

This is a good name to hold. The water authorities in NSW and Vic use 'Sydney Water sydneywater.com.au' and 'Melbourne Water melbournewater.com.au ' respectively but there is no authority using 'Brisbane Water' in Qld.

There do not seem to be any trade mark or prior use issues which might work against holding this domain.

I would happily take this domain name on to sell on a 'no sale, no fee' basis. A quick search on Google would identify dozens of potential buyers, I'm sure.

I can't see any value in it but some people seem to be able to make any domain work. The 'no sale, no fee' option could be a good opportunity to test the field.

Can someone explain to me a 'no sale, no fee' basis thanks

If the thing doesn't sell, you don't pay anything. It's a no risk option for the seller, but it does often come with additional terms. E.g. in the case of domain names, if the agent spends considerable time marketing the domain name, and perhaps even lines up a buyer, then you decide at the last minute you don't want to sell, there may be a penalty clause so you have to pay something for the agent's efforts.
