i use a mobile "stick" on the laptop when i travel, just 1 meg is generally enough but i just did a 3 week trip, i have previously phoned optus FIVE TIMES before my holiday to change the default 80% usage warning email to my own email account but they STILL send it to their BS : timcon***@optus.com.au email address that i NEVER access.

but now they want to charge me $40 excess usage, thats 15cents a mg on my plan so i go into an optus store last week and they say " ohhh no, its only 2 cents a mg now ! "

WELL did optus think to change me to the new deal, of course not, YES its my fault i do agree but F ME, 15cents to 2 cents is a scam.

YES $40 is really nothing, but well worth a warning post to others .

i'm sure its the same for other telco's so hopefully i save someone some money by this post.

after that i bought a prepaid sim to get me through the trip, it just cut out when finished which really isn't a bad idea but the 1mg i got prepaid cost me $30 where as my 1mg on my plan costs me $11 , ummmmmm pretty nice profit for them i think

tim, p*ssed off, ish

I have a couple of prepaid internet sticks. 1 is optus, the other telstra. Telstra is the bomb on service and data speeds (especially 4G which the missus has) compared to optus, but optus is almost half the price for data.

The other thing with optus too, if you have a tablet and register a sim as a tablet/ipad sim, you get almost twice the amount of prepaid data on top of the regular data sim for the same price recharge.

Another thing as mentioned, sometimes these sticks can be bought for less than the cost of supplied data with the unit (usually up to 3 gig) when on special at supermarkets or electrical outlets.

I do everything prepaid these days when it comes to comms, I hate suprises and small print addons but prepaid overall (for the same period) costs more for data than completing a contract. I guess the idea of not being able to charge balance of contracts and exit fees is more important than money in the bank for a service yet to be supplied.

sorry, 1 gig,

i have 500GIG in the office per month so i only use it when i go out, when i travel mostly i tap into other peoples networks eg: family, friends, pubs etc so i pretty good, i would have been ok but i had to download a website to fix a HACK issue and found they had some HUGE image files..... my mistake for not checking.

I am getting rid of Optus at the end of my contract in 1-2 months, had some big issues with them, they act like they do not care about business customers at all!, just get some rude person in sales giving you poor advice and the people at the store are no help what so ever.

1MB would last me about 26 seconds online.

I'm going to go for one of these when my current plan ends soon.

You may also notice they have plenty of domains. http://www.kogan.com/au/domains/

Yep; good one. I'm currently on Red Bull Mobile which is almost identical to Kogan Mobile, except one major difference; network provider. Red Bull Mobile uses Vodafone, Kogan Mobile uses Telstra. Tonnes on Whirlpool about both.

ok, so i had a whinge but i have been with with them for over 6 years on home/internet and now "stick" , all up i would give them 9/10 rating, it was really my fault i went over.

i have f u s i o n 100, which gives me 500gig and unlimited phone calls to all but 13, 1300 numbers.

on my business mobile i am with telstra and my plan works well for me as i don't phone anyone so i basically pay $25 a month just ot have inbound calls.

when i stuffed up i was travelling and i was in dapto nsw, i went into the optus shop and i really could not fault the service i got, the girl went out of her way to make sure i was sorted and basically only made the $30 sim card sale, but probably gave $100 worth of effort.

even with my pissed off situation i won't be changing, just learning for next time.

i suppose its just who you get?

I suggest changing your mobile to Kogan. $29 a month for unlimited calls to all mobile & landlines (no more asking anyone to call you back). Unlimited text. 6gb data per month so you can throw away your "stick" for good.

A no brainier to me really.
