According to the Urban Dictionary ---> a Hypster is a "pretentious person with money, youth and a sense of cultural and intellectual superiority." "A Yuppie Hipster if you will."

furthermore...

People who try to be cool for the sake of feeling superiority. Makes hipsters look bad (if that is possible). Lacking in humor, overcompensating by
mean spirited sarcasm and Irony.
Usually strung out on Coke & Coffee.
Me: I spend too much time on clothes and old records. procrastination issues.

Hipster: I make Ironic tee-shirts at star-bucks with a macbook air wearing converse (see nike) listening to 'indie' (see adult contemporary), while pretening to be anti-commercialism. I also hate you peronaly for being boring.

Hypster: I work in a fortune 500, too uncouth too be a pseudo-intellectual, too hateful to be new age/alt. I listen to what hipsters with garageband who abuse the bit-crusher filter spin on over priced clubs while being so strung out on coke I actually think I'm and individual. I wax dicks for horse ironically. And I still am arrogant enough to feel better than you.

$0. 1900 searches in Nov and it looks to be falling almost every month.

Hypster currently is showing 4,500 exacts in google keyword tool. In google trends hypster is non existent, but hipster is up up up.

It will be interesting for me to see how hipster.com.au does.

Neither term hipster or hypster are competitive and yes the end use is not as clear as other domains, but if my thoughts are correct there will be a good bit of traffic.

I don't think the site will make big money as is, but it is a start.

That is an average over 12 months, and is skewed towards the start of the period, need to download the actual data (as below).

As I said it is on a very fast downtrend which corresponds with the popularity of the site,

Hmm... I didn't know it could be downloaded. How does one do this?

Like I know how to look something up on google trends, but how does one get the exacts by year?

Hypster sure does seem to move around. You're probably right about it going down.

So you see no value in it? Even with the high search exacts?

It isn't worth anything and you'll see that if you put it up for sale.

People won't just pay for searches regardless of anything else. It only has searches because of the .com site and the searches are declining rapidly.

You can still make a great website business using any reasonable domain name. But in your case you have a tough vertical. The keyword "Vintage Clothing" and "Retro Clothing" and "Retro Bicycles" are all highly competitive. It will take a lot of SEO to get on the first page, but it can be done. I have done it, any good SEO can get you on first page.

Options I would consider:

1. If you want to develop the site, use the google keyword tool and find your niche, narrow your focus. then optimise for long tail keywords. Remember, you are after traffic that is ready to make a purchase.

2. If you want to realise the value of a retro vintage related domain name then go for something like retrohipster.com.au or more generic retrovintagegear.com.au

3. As far as Hypster.com.au goes... well you could build your business branding around this name and focus on growing the business.

That's just how I would go about it anyhow. HTH. :)

Thank you for the excellent advice... Yes anything with vintage, retro, antique is a tough vertical. Guessing this means there must be some money in it?

I saw this and decided that as someone who knows little about SEO and is developing their first website it would be better for me to target low competition keyword with high search volume.

Still think hypster and hipster are excellent EMD domains with financial value.

Ranking for long tail keywords is my next step. ;)

Hipster from my research very much indicates vintage, retro, clothing, and fashion. It is not as narrow of a keyword as lets say tshirts (some on this forum have indicated this is also too broad) but is comparable to vintage and especially retro.

As far as Hypster.com.au goes... well you could build your business branding around this name and focus on growing the business.

Planning to focus on Hipster, but see value in redirecting from Hypster. Together they equate to over 15,000 exacts per month. I could be wrong but I have a hard time believing that if that kind of traffic is moving thought the site it will not make some money.

That's just how I would go about it anyhow. HTH.

Thank you very much for the info.
