dot com thoughts please

Hi all, after recently introducing myself it was suggested I throw it up for your thoughts on the domain ozclix dot com as I'm not sure what to do with it.

At the moment it is just a standalone domain not parked or anything.

Individual google searches for oz and clix come back with 820 mil and 9.2 mil results respectively which may mean nothing...origonaly I was looking at maybe setting up something along the lines of an Australian travel directory of sorts but never got around to it (read:...too much work for someone that has no idea and not flush with funds), but may be of use to someone that could use it.

Would be interested in your thoughts...maybe suggestions on the best thing to do with this. Obviously the continuous costs involved with keeping the name is minimal so almost zero outgoings. Just curious however on the off chance it may be worth something to someone.

Thanks in advance,

Jay

Use Google keyword tool for picking search volume on the keywords.
Select it towards "exact match", I am guessing the word Ozclix has low search volume.

Really you can say a term like "onlinewebnow.com" has "online" "web" "now" with various terms has high amounts of mentions with in Google, but really in reality it does not many any thing.

I think a travel site/ directory about Australia could work.

Thanks James, will keep it in mind in the future (re exact key searches). The other thing I noticed with suggested keywords was that the weighting on suggested keywords after I typed it in seemed more towards IT and SEO related businesses rather than Australia (or Oz as such) for ozclix.com.

Still learning day by day, thread by thread :D

Not worth anything.

ooh snoopy, you disappoint me ! you forgot " it doesn't survive the "radio test"

my opinion, worth less then nothing, throw it away, think yourself lucky you haven't spent hours developing a site on it and move on.

stick to "radio test" and you are half way there.

spareparts.com.au vs ozclix, osclix, ausclix, ausclicks, ozclicks, osclicks, which one is it?????????????????????

Got it thanks ;)

Been doing some searching on available DN's and have noted a dozen or so to follow up but it appears google has blocked me from their adwords keyword tool....I guess I was too eager with my checks and tripped alarm bells as it says I may be using automated submissions (I'm not).

Are you just trying to find a name and than build a business around the name you find? I would pick something you're passionate about and choose a domain that falls into that vertical. May as well enjoy what you are building out.

I second what Simon says, good advice.

Cheers,
Chris

I'd rather have spent $10 on ozclicks.com than $3k on spareparts.com.au. The $10 loss is a lot less painful than losing hundreds on the latter.

Just as a general rule, for a name obviously targeted to Australia, don't bother with .com. The equivalent com.au is generally much more valuable.

Initially when I chose the name I was actually looking at the international market for travel purposes, backpackers etc (hence the dot com) and I didnt have an ABN at the time so an au wasnt going to happen. I actually thought at the tinme you had to have an individual ABN linked to each specific au Domain and business registration which is another reason I didnt do it. Live and learn.

Then I missed the boat on the huge Oprah Australia special event which created a lot of buzz (even though that was fairly exclusive as far as planned events, promotions etc). Too much too soon for someone that wasnt ready for it or had the know-how to pull it off. I also learnt that oz is a generic we associate more with Australia than internationals unless they have already been here and know of it.

The 'radio test' I only just recently learnt about, however in saying that I have found there a lot of people do associate clicks with clix (maybe due to text talk?).

As Snoopy said..$10 p.a. no great loss and I think its a cheap learning experience....It brought me here :).....makes me curious now what happened with 'spare parts' now that it was mentioned, I would have thought that would have been a shoe-in to develop.

Thanks

I don't think they have any intention on developing that one. Just making sure nobody else does.
