BestLifeInsurance.com.au is dropping tomorrow...

$49.42 [480] "1300"

Estimates on what it will go for? And general thoughts about it?

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, if the stats are right then the stats are right. Don't know much about these types of names so no estimate.

Probably $3,500 range, possibly a fair bit more to an end user or some one looking to set up a life insurance comparison site.

I also notice that 1 cover currently owns this domain, some one has made a stuff up.

I don't think this name could ever be used by a major end user since the word "best" is prohibited from use by most AFSL holders.

Someone with little understanding of the financial services laws in Australia will probably overpay for this one...

Agreed...

ASIC RG 234.76 - Some terms and phrases have such a strong connotation for consumers that they should only be used in advertising with great care. While literally correct, it may be inappropriate to use them in consumer advertising.

'Prohibited' is very different from

'may be inappropriate'

And in reality, I don't think this regulation makes any difference judging by the number of life insurance websites using the word 'best' all over their sites and meta descriptions

you mean the search volume? I have a feeling that over the last few years terms with the words 'best' in them have increased in line with people becoming ever more lazy and impatient to get the 'right' answer sooner.

Five years ago people who might have searched 'life insurance' now can't be bothered to do the work of sifting through the results so bang on a 'best' hoping that someone else has done the work for them.

I've noticed myself doing it especially using googles discussion search filter... very lazy I know.

Edit: this seems to support the theory http://www.google.com.au/trends/explore#q=Best&geo=AU&cmpt=q

$500 and still 5 hours to go. I think James is fairly on the money in at $3500.

EDIT: Sorry to skew off-topic, but I see BambooNappies.com.au is being bid on in the drops too. But this is a brand name. Won't this attract some legal issues if the buyer is a reseller?

BAMboo is a type of nappy (cloth nappies using bamboo fibers). The brand is BUMboo. I was looking at this one myself, but decided against bidding.

Ah ok my bad. However then I guess this domain is quite attractive; there's always gonna be a market..

My gut says it will go in the $2000 - $2500 range, but the metrics to me suggest it could net $5000 - $10,000

I did not know about this rule, but if you search for this term it seems primarily life insurance comparison sites are using it, so I understand what you mean, even some of the biggest ones use the term in their home page attribute.

I mean recently this year we saw this domain BestCreditCardDeals.com.au sell for: $3,437

Surely this domain is better????

There's a difference between what the Corporations Act states and what the AFSL holders and dealer groups put in place for their Authorised Representatives.

As I said, most AFSL holders (not necessarily the law) prohibit the use of the term "best" from any sort of marketing material including websites run by their authorised representatives.

I spent a good part of my life working in compliance for financial services companies, and most of them (the ones I knew of at least) had a blanket ban on the word.

Anyway, it was interesting to see who won this name in the end! Good luck with it.
